New Competitive Pricing, Proven Solutions Bring Big-Business BI to SMBs

Oracle Business Intelligence Standard Edition One, available since June 2007, is bringing big-business BI to small and medium organizations, from Oracle’s unparalleled BI platform to its advanced report publishing—all at a cost of just US$1,000 per user for deployments of 5 to 50 users.

Business intelligence (BI) has long dominated CIO wish lists. In fact, for the last two years, it has been their No. 1 priority, according to Gartner surveys.

But for SMBs, the challenges of implementing a BI solution have been daunting: system complexity, costly implementation and support, cumbersome UIs, disparate integration requirements of multiple point solutions, and products “dumbed down” for the midmarket.

Yet the costs of inaction are also high. Without a strong BI foundation, employees typically resort to data export into Microsoft Excel. That’s a time-consuming, costly, error-prone process—and one that puts emerging enterprises at a distinct disadvantage against their larger competitors.

Proven, Enterprise-Class BI—Priced and Packaged for SMBs
“As the only vendor positioned in the Leaders quadrant for both BI platforms and data warehousing, Oracle is in a unique position to forge a long-elusive solution to this challenge,” says David Planeaux, director of Product Marketing, Oracle Business Intelligence.

Oracle Business Intelligence Standard Edition One is a complete, integrated BI and data warehousing system that is based on proven, recognized enterprise technology but is packaged, preconfigured, and priced to meet the specific needs of small to medium organizations and workgroups.

“Oracle BI Standard Edition One is an exciting offering, because smaller organizations now have easier access to the software our largest enterprise customers have enjoyed for years,” continues Planeaux.

The product features all the core BI capabilities these organizations need—all in a single, easy-to-install package that is priced attractively at $1,000 per user. It is available for deployments of 5 to 50 users and can be run on a single server with one or two CPUs.

“Oracle Business Intelligence Standard Edition One is the only end-to-end BI and data warehousing solution based on category-leading technology for every component, offering a complete and compelling solution at an attractive price,” says Paul Rodwick, vice president of Oracle BI Product Management. “The software offers small to medium organizations a proper infrastructure that will serve their immediate BI needs yet easily scale and grow with their needs over time.”

Because the Business Intelligence Standard Edition One package is so comprehensive, organizations can pick and choose which components they want to start out with and then deploy more functionality as their business needs evolve. A company might start with operational reporting against a transaction system and later expand to include role-based dashboards and ad hoc analysis on top of an Oracle data mart.

Organizations can also seamlessly upgrade to enterprise versions of the BI and database software, should business needs expand, without the need to reimplement analytic content. “The flexibility and upgradability of the product enable organizations to think big but start small,” says Rodwick.

And by relying on a single vendor, SMBs gain support for any issue with a single call, rather than having to diagnose and troubleshoot through multiple vendors. The result: significantly lower total cost of ownership.

For a single price, Oracle Business Intelligence Standard Edition One includes all of the following:

* Oracle Database Standard Edition One. The world’s leading database serves as the foundation of a robust data warehouse or data mart.

* Oracle Warehouse Builder (core). This leading extract, transform, and load (ETL) tool helps organizations construct and maintain an efficient, high-quality data warehouse.

* Oracle Business Intelligence Server. The server that powers Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition, Oracle Business Intelligence Server is a powerful query and analysis server that provides a single, simplified view of business information, unified BI metadata, powerful calculations, and high-performance access to data stored across nearly any datasource.

* Oracle Business Intelligence Interactive Dashboards. Oracle Business Intelligence Interactive Dashboards provides a personalized, role-based, 100 percent thin-client Web browser interface for important trends and KPIs, including gauges, charts, summary reports, and even condition-based guided analytics.

* Oracle Answers. Oracle Answers is a 100 percent thin-client ad hoc reporting and analysis solution that is fully integrated with Oracle Business Intelligence Interactive Dashboards and Oracle Business Intelligence Publisher. End users can quickly create their own reports and then drill, analyze, visualize, and embed the results in their own personalized dashboard.

* Oracle Business Intelligence Publisher. Oracle Business Intelligence Publisher provides a single solution for generating all kinds of business documents and highly formatted reports, from virtually any datasource or application. Users leverage familiar desktop tools such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Adobe Acrobat to build their report templates, easily creating everything from regulatory filings, checks, and invoices to operational reports, management reports, and more.
