ESS, Oracle Join Forces to Create Cohesive Environmental Sustainability Solution

In response to unprecedented growth of both current regulations and impending legislation, Oracle has joined forces with ESS—the leading global provider of environmental, health, and safety (EH&S) software—to help reduce the cost, risk, and complexity of managing environmental sustainability.

Oracle and ESS plan to deliver a cohesive offering that integrates three primary components—data acquisition, compliance management, and reporting—all working in conjunction with enterprise applications.

The planned solution will provide central management of environmental data for greater timeliness and accuracy. It will also help reduce risk with tools of active management and enforcement, including optimized EH&S workflows. In addition, it will reduce management costs, including costs of report generation.

What ESS Brings to the Table
ESS brings extensive experience in collecting the full spectrum of EH&S information from across a business unit, facility, or global enterprise.

For example, ESS solutions gather air, water, waste, and other environmental metrics—via forms as well as directly from real-time sensors—into a centralized "eco-hub." The eco-hub provides a robust, proven data model for centralized management and storage of environmental data.

What Oracle Brings to the Table
"The foundation of any improvement program is measurement, and that is just as true of sustainability and environmental initiatives. By working with ESS, we can provide the foundation," said Jon Chorley, Oracle vice president of product strategy.

That foundation includes Oracle Governance, Risk, and Compliance Manager (GRC Manager) and Business Intelligence Suite Enterprise Edition Plus.

Oracle GRC Manager helps organizations manage risk and compliance programs across regulations and around the globe. By incorporating environmental compliance on a common platform with, for example, financial compliance and IT governance, Oracle GRC Manager can help reduce total compliance costs.

Just as important, Oracle Business Intelligence Suite Enterprise Edition Plus provides the visibility that drives the necessary actions to ensure compliance. It includes a full range of analysis and reporting capabilities, providing views into operational data and identifying issues and opportunities related to environmental sustainability.
