Oracle Unveils Oracle WebCenter Suite 11g

By empowering both developers and business users with Enterprise 2.0 capabilities, Oracle WebCenter Suite 11g, a modern enterprise portal platform, simplifies the creation of online business communities and helps capture and strengthen relationships between people, processes, applications, and information.

Oracle WebCenter Suite 11g is widely considered the industry's most complete, open, and manageable enterprise portal platform, and offers new and enhanced features such as Oracle WebCenter Spaces, Oracle WebCenter Services, Oracle Business Dictionary, Oracle Composer, Task Flows, and prepackaged integrations.

“Oracle WebCenter Suite 11g offers many pre-packaged components that put power in the hands of the business user instead of requiring the IT department to develop customized applications,” says Jennifer Briscoe, vice president and chief technology officer, Collect America, a provider of asset management services and financial products.

“The ability to create composite applications coupled with the productivity gains of embedding communities directly into any type of application enables our business users to effect positive change for the business," explains Briscoe.

Power to the User
Oracle WebCenter Suite 11g gives business users the power to personalize and customize their own portal environments—in a simple-to-use, drag-and-drop, browser-based tool. They can, for example, create portal mashups that consolidate business applications, business intelligence, content, and social computing services—all on a single screen.

In this way, users have at their fingertips all the relevant communities, information, and tools they need to make key business decisions.

At the same time, WebCenter 11g frees up developers from proprietary portal environments and costly, time-consuming integrations. As a result, they can quickly assemble composite Web applications and online communities in a clean, visual development environment with drag-and-drop simplicity.

Key new features of Oracle WebCenter Suite 11g include:

  • Oracle WebCenter Spaces. Provides a personal and team work environment for business users to create formal and ad hoc Web-based communities, and is pre-integrated with Microsoft Office.
  • Oracle WebCenter Services. Simplifies the integration of enterprise-ready Web 2.0 services, including wikis, blogs, tagging, linking, recent activity, RSS, people connections, and activity graphs.
  • Oracle Business Dictionary. Provides a role-specific library of enterprise applications, business intelligence, business processes, and enterprise content that IT and business users can easily combine, edit, share, and customize for rapid creation of dashboards or pertinent views into the business.
  • Oracle Composer. Provides an extensible and easy-to-use browser-based tool to enable end users to customize with a few simple clicks portals and composite applications with social computing services.
  • Task Flows. Enables developers to quickly reuse and combine individual portlets into complex yet flexible portals and applications via more than 50 prebuilt components that can be individually exposed as portlets or customized to deliver a full range of user experiences.
  • Pre-Packaged Integrations. To simplify implementation, Oracle WebCenter Suite 11g bundles leading enterprise content management, enterprise search, business process, and presence capabilities. It is also a hot-pluggable component of Oracle Fusion Middleware, with certified integrations with Oracle Database, Oracle Identity Management, Oracle Business Intelligence, Oracle Applications, and includes prepackaged integrations with third-party applications.
