Oracle Sees Strong Adoption of Oracle Database 11g
Oracle Database 11g, launched in July 2007, is now seeing a steady flow of customers going live in production. Four recent customer stories exemplify the trend: Melbourne Health, Mobiltel, the Northern California Power Agency, and RTL are in production with Oracle Database 11g to power core transaction processing, decision support, and content management applications.
"Customers are already using Oracle Database 11g to deliver speed, scalability, and reliability in support of their demanding content management, data warehousing, and transaction processing environments," says William Hardie, vice president of Database product marketing, Oracle.
Melbourne Health piloted DICOM image storage, metadata extraction, and DICOM image retrieval capabilities of Oracle Database 11g. The solution enables the major public health provider in Victoria, Australia, to anonymize images and validate regulatory conformance. Melbourne Health deployed on Windows and Linux.
Mobiltel serves more than 5 million mobile customers in Bulgaria. It upgraded to Oracle Database 11g on Linux to deliver a higher quality of service and to respond more effectively to rapidly changing business needs.
The Northern California Power Agency (NCPA) deployed Oracle Database 11g on Windows to take advantage of Oracle XML DB, a feature that provides high-performance XML storage and retrieval. Oracle XML DB helps the agency manage data on very large and complex power settlements from every electric utility in the state.
RTL, France's leading radio network, relies on Oracle Database 11g and Oracle Real Application Clusters to ensure that its Web site's 1.2 million monthly unique visitors have immediate access to the site’s audio and written content.
"Reaction from customers and partners to the change management, self-management, performance, and grid computing enhancements available in Oracle Database 11g has been overwhelmingly positive," says Hardie.
