The Buzz Continues for Oracle Database 11g Release 2

Analysts and industry press have responded positively to Oracle Database 11g Release 2. Oracle partners are also excited about the release.

It’s all about cutting costs,” says ChannelWeb. “It will tackle storage costs,” wrote ComputerWeekly. Other journalists noted that the release enables a broader definition of grid computing to the benefit of both mission-critical and departmental-level applications.

Here’s what leading analysts had to say:

"’The idea [behind Release 2] is to get better management of servers with RAC, get better compression with storage, and to get better overall management, all of which is tied to saving money. What they have done is smart—tying all these new features to cost savings,’ said Donald Feinberg, vice president and distinguished analyst in Gartner's Intelligence in the Information Infrastructure group.” More…

"”Organizations are facing exponential information growth throughout their data centers but are also looking to minimize costs,’ said Carl Olofson, research vice president with market researcher IDC. ‘I think some of Release 2's features to grid computing and storage management get greater utilization of their information management systems while making the system infrastructure and storage easier to manage and more affordable.’" More…

Information Management Online, Jim Ericson, September 1, 2009
“’11gR2 focuses on making databases run quicker, have better availability and scale using lower cost hardware,’ says Forrester Research analyst Noel Yuhanna. Rac One Node, he says, ’is a compelling business case…for those that support smaller or less mission critical apps that need better availability…. With low memory prices, running large and complex queries in-memory makes a very appealing case for business,’ Yuhanna [says]. ‘In-memory parallel execution across nodes in a cluster removes the need for disk I/O for large tables, which typically has been the biggest bottleneck.’” More…
