Fusion, Fusion, or Fusion? Three Initiatives—One Goal

You've probably heard Oracle representatives talk about "Oracle Fusion," or you've read about it in the press. And you might have noticed that the term is used in three different ways. Here are short definitions:

Oracle Fusion Applications are the next generation of Oracle Applications. Oracle is developing these applications by bringing the latest technology advancements to a best-in-class portfolio of business and industry applications.

Oracle Fusion Architecture is the blueprint detailing the linkage between enterprise applications, middleware, and grid infrastructure technologies.

Oracle Fusion Middleware is a proven portfolio of middleware solutions that are available today and certified for interoperability with Oracle's current application portfolio. Evaluating and adopting Oracle Fusion Middleware now is the recommended first step toward Oracle Fusion Applications.

The Oracle Fusion Foundation

Adoption of Oracle Fusion technologies is designed to be an evolutionary process that provides incremental business value in the near and long term. A number of self-guided resources and guided programs are available to help.

Getting Started:
  • Document your current application customizations, near- and long-term business goals, and upgrade strategies
  • Understand functionality improvements in the latest releases of Oracle Applications, including the uptake of Oracle Fusion Middleware
  • Evaluate IT skill sets, the benefits of upgrading versus maintaining current applications, and two-year customization costs
  • Review potential business and IT advantages (such as reduced fragmentation of business intelligence strategies, lower compliance and discovery costs, reduced IT management, and accelerated process change and innovation)
  • Consider using pilot projects and self-guided resources, such as Oracle's SOA Maturity Model, and guided programs, such as the Oracle Insight Program, to develop specific tactics or overall application lifecycle strategies
