Combining the "Best of the Best": Oracle Sets BEA Integration Strategy

On July 1, Oracle President Charles Phillips and Oracle Senior Vice President Thomas Kurian delivered a live Webcast, the BEA Welcome and Middleware Strategy Briefing, to thousands of BEA and Oracle partners and customers worldwide. The briefing explored the Oracle Fusion Middleware strategy, including the combination of the "best of the best" from BEA and Oracle in Oracle's next-generation middleware portfolio. With the BEA acquisition, Oracle becomes No. 1 in the middleware market.

"Together we're now No. 1 in the middleware market," said Phillips. "Now we're in a position to really innovate in this market, to lead the market toward more productive middleware, and the partners are looking forward to that as well."

Continuity for Customer's Investments

Phillips detailed Oracle's integration principles, which include investment protection for both customer bases, meaning customers will not have forced migrations and can continue under existing support lifetimes. He also highlighted Oracle's increased investment in middleware, including additional resources across engineering, sales, and global support.

A Clear Strategy

With an emphasis on strategic clarity, Kurian continued the discussion with a keen focus on the strategy and direction of the Oracle Fusion Middleware product family. He presented a three-part framework for discussing the direction of middleware products:

  • Strategic products—BEA products adopted immediately into Oracle Fusion Middleware with little redesign; complementary to Oracle technology
  • Continue and converge—BEA products that will continue to be enhanced and incrementally integrated into strategic products
  • Maintenance—BEA products that will be maintained at a basic level to protect customer investments
The addition of BEA products to Oracle Fusion Middleware further strengthens key areas of the Oracle Fusion Middleware family and has accelerated Oracle's leadership position in the market. Kurian articulated the growth of the Oracle Fusion Middleware portfolio and highlighted strategic product areas including "We're taking these best–of–breed products and very pragmatically integrating them and adding features into an overall broader product suite," said Kurian. "You as customers not only get the best middleware suite in the industry, the best middleware components in the industry, but also the broadest range of choices with well–defined options on how you move forward."
