Tally Green Savings with New Calculator

Oracle now provides an effective, easy-to-use green calculator to help IT management and professionals visualize the green benefits of their next Oracle Content Management projects.

"Oracle Content Management customers are used to talking about the ROI of their content management projects in concrete terms, such as reams of paper saved and pallets of documents shipped or stored," says Brian Dirking, principal product director for Oracle Content Management.

"The green calculator helps them tell the story in terms of savings to the environment," says Dirking. "For example, Swedish Medical, a U.S.-based hospital and clinic network, estimated it saves $200,000 annually in shipping costs and has eliminated 2 million pages of paper using Oracle Content Management." Using the green calculator, that translates into estimated savings of

  • 235 trees
  • 1,764 barrels of oil
  • 352,527 pounds of carbon emissions avoided.

Tell Your ROI Story with the Green Calculator
The Oracle Content Management Green Calculator (xls, zip) is a tool for understanding how the ROI of going electronic with paper processes translates into concrete savings for the environment. "The calculator enables organizations to see how many trees, barrels of oil, and pounds of carbon they can save by going with online business processes," says Dirking. "It's not exhaustive, but it's fun and it is based on reasonable figures from quoted sources."

"Content management people are uniquely positioned to talk about their work's green ramifications to the organization," says Dirking. "One customer had a pallet of paper documents brought in on a forklift as he addressed his company to show them how their new content processes were helping not just the company's bottom line—through things like process efficiency and lower data center costs—but also helping the environment," says Dirking.

Lifestyle Benefits
"Companies are now discovering further green benefits and savings from online processes," says Dirking. "Because information is available electronically, employees have the option of working from home, which can bring down the cost of office space while saving a tremendous amount of gas and pollution."
