Top 10 Things to Look for at Oracle OpenWorld 2007

Oracle OpenWorld has been a cornerstone event for Oracle Fusion Middleware for the past three years. This year is no exception. Starting on Sunday, November 11, and running through Thursday, November 15, Oracle OpenWorld will take over much of downtown San Francisco for this informational, fun-filled week.

Middleware highlights for the week include

1) Thomas Kurian, Oracle Executives, and Industry Leader Keynotes—Various Locations
For the middleware-minded, the must-see session of the week is Thomas Kurian’s keynote on Tuesday at 9:15 a.m. As senior vice president of Oracle Fusion Middleware development at Oracle, Kurian will share insights into the middleware business that you’ve probably never heard before, including new products, features, and innovations by customers using Oracle Fusion Middleware today.

Also, don’t miss Oracle executives Charles Phillips and Chuck Rozwat on Monday; John Wookey on Tuesday afternoon; and, of course, Larry Ellison on Wednesday. Also keynoting are industry leaders including AMD’s Hector Ruiz, HP’s Mark Hurd, Intel’s Paul Otellini, and Dell’s Michael Dell.

2) Sessions, Sessions, Sessions—Various Locations
Featuring more than 1,600 sessions, Oracle OpenWorld 2007 is the most comprehensive Oracle event ever. This is the ideal event to find out what’s new or coming in the newest releases—or to get an overview of solutions you haven’t had the chance to explore.

3) Middleware Innovation Supersessions—Yerba Buena Center
Don’t miss the middleware supersessions scheduled for the newest Oracle OpenWorld venue—Yerba Buena Center. The increasing popularity of these sessions meant that they had to be moved to larger facilities. Catch overview sessions on innovative middleware solutions provided by Oracle Service-Oriented Architecture Suite, Oracle Identity Management, Oracle WebCenter, Oracle Content Management, and more.

4) Next-Generation Development and Hands-On Experience at Oracle Develop—Hilton
More than 100 sessions including hands-on labs covering service-oriented architecture, Oracle Fusion Applications development, Java and Java Enterprise, and emerging technologies such as Web 2.0 and data grids. Don’t miss technical keynotes from Thomas Kurian, SVP, Oracle Fusion Middleware development, and database guru Tom Kyte, VP of core technologies, to hear about the latest development trends from Oracle.

5) New for 2007: Multiple Middleware Tracks—Moscone Center, Hilton
Oracle OpenWorld 2007 includes four dedicated tracks featuring middleware sessions:

  • SOA, Business Process Management, Application Server
  • Content Management, Collaboration & Web 2.0
  • Business Intelligence
  • Security, Featuring Oracle Identity Management

6) Dedicated Application Infrastructure Sessions—Moscone, Hilton, Marriott, Westin St. Francis
More than 50 sessions are dedicated to illustrating how you can further extend your existing application releases under the Oracle Applications Unlimited strategy. Look for them in the Applications Strategy and Application Tools and Technology areas of the following tracks: Oracle E-Business Suite, Siebel, PeopleSoft, JD Edwards, Retail, Financial Services, and Public Sector.

7) Go Deep or Just Hang Out with OTN Aces and Experts—Moscone West, 2nd Floor; Westin St. Francis
Once again, Oracle Technology Network (OTN) hosts the OTN Lounge in Moscone West on the 2nd floor—THE place to meet up with fellow Oracle enthusiasts, community experts, and OTN staff. Stop by and pick up the OTN’s Greatest Hits, 2007 Edition CD.

Also, on Monday, November 12, don’t miss OTN Appreciation Night at the Westin St. Francis, starting at 7:30 p.m. Relax, enjoy refreshments, network with other IT and developer peers, and win prizes.

8) Meet the Experts, See the Products, Ask the Questions—Moscone South, Demo Pavilion
This year’s DEMOgrounds feature a range of demonstrations and technology experts as broad as the Oracle Fusion Middleware product line, including an expanded offering of core technologies such as Oracle Service-Oriented Architecture Suite and Oracle Application Server, in addition to new solutions such as Oracle WebCenter, Oracle Content Management, Oracle Coherence, and products from Hyperion.

9) Hands-On Experience with Oracle Content Management—Hilton
Get up close and personal with Oracle Content Management solutions. Starting on Monday, November 12, complete tutorials will be available on developing an enterprise-class Web site from scratch, streamlining digital assets or Web content management, implementing records and retention policies, and securing critical information. Look for them in the Content, Collaboration and Web 2.0 track when you register.
