Oracle HCM Experts Answer Your Questions
The first in a series of columns featuring answers to customers’ most frequently asked questions about Oracle’s human capital management products—straight from Oracle HCM experts. In this column, executives explain the business benefits of Oracle’s PeopleSoft Enterprise 9.0, Oracle’s vision for new HCM products, and how organizations can develop a long-term application upgrade strategy tailored to their individual needs.
How can we justify the cost of upgrading to Oracle’s PeopleSoft Enterprise 9.0?
HCM 9.0 offers a range of new capabilities designed to significantly reduce administrative costs and improve HR productivity. For example, the new SmartHire feature gives managers the ability to create templates that streamline the hire process for positions that frequently need to be filled or have unique characteristics that could cause delays in the hiring process. In addition, managers can use Profile Management to identify key players in their workforce, and employees can use this same tool to proactively manage their career. Other tools help managers communicate the total value of cash and non cash incentives
to employees.
To achieve these benefits HCM 9.0 provides enterprise-wide talent management capabilities, business process optimizations based on “lean” management best practices, and innovative yet standards-based technology. Identify more ways to justify the cost of upgrading by reading the "
The Business Value of Upgrading to PeopleSoft Enterprise 9: Human Capital Management Solutions" white paper.
Is further development of Oracle’s HR applications on hold until Oracle releases its Fusion products? And how are current versions going to be supported in the future?
Thanks to Oracle’s Applications Unlimited strategy, Oracle will continue to enhance all of its current application suites, including the HCM modules in Oracle E-Business Suite, Oracle’s PeopleSoft Enterprise, and Oracle’s JD Edwards EnterpriseOne and World. These development efforts will continue beyond the introduction of Oracle Fusion Applications so customers can continue to preserve their existing investments in HCM applications. As an example of this ongoing development commitment, PeopleSoft Enterprise HCM 9.0 includes two new key features and almost 1,500 enhancements to existing features. Additionally, strategy and development teams at Oracle are in the final planning stages for PeopleSoft Enterprise 9.1 and Oracle E-Business Suite 12.1. Get more information on

In addition, Oracle’s Lifetime Support Policy gives customers further investment protection with five- and optional eight-year maintenance and support plans, or optional sustained technical support for as long as a program is being used.
What’s the best way for current users of Oracle Applications to prepare for Fusion Applications and upgrading their current applications in general?
Oracle Applications customers have a wide range of choices when it comes to planning ahead: they can stay with their current products, upgrade to the latest versions, or put a road map in place to move to Oracle's next-generation applications.
What's more, customers who are interested in Oracle's next-generation Fusion Applications can start down the evolutionary path by implementing key Fusion technologies that are available today, including Oracle Identity Management and the Oracle SOA Suite. Additionally, Oracle will be delivering automated data upgrades, in addition to migration tools, to help customers create their own road map according to what makes the most sense for their businesses.
