‘Connected’ Employees Boost Efficiency with Social Networking

Social-networking tools to facilitate group communications and collaborations aren’t only useful for forging personal relationships. Now they’re becoming integral to workplaces and creating “connected” employee environments.

“Employees are building connections to help them be more productive and share what they know,” says Gretchen Alarcon, Oracle vice president of HCM strategy. “In both cases, organizations prefer to have that information stay within the company so the discussions can benefit other employees.”

Oracle is incorporating technologies for group collaborations into a variety of its technologies, including the Oracle WebCenter Suite and upcoming PeopleTools 8.5 release.

The benefits include new efficiencies, such as connecting workers in different departments who may work on similar business problems but wouldn’t typically cross paths.

“If you don’t have a system where communications and networking are made possible, collaboration often comes about by word of mouth, which is time consuming and may never successfully establish the right connections,” Alarcon explains.

Oracle’s WebCenter Suite facilitates collaborations by helping users create group spaces for sharing information. Similarly, with Oracle’s new Workforce Communications solution, organizations can target messages to specific groups, such as engineers who receive invitations to share information about a new product design.
