Wikis and Blogs Transform HCM into Oracle Employee 2.0
What do you get when you combine the latest best practices for talent management with cutting-edge Web 2.0 collaboration and communication innovations? Oracle Enterprise 2.0 for HCM, a new approach to recruiting, cultivating, and retaining talent.
With Enterprise 2.0 for HCM, staff members can use secure instant messaging, blogs, wikis, chat sessions, social networking, and even virtual worlds to answer questions about benefits, share knowledge, interact with mentors, and develop new expertise.
"Enterprise 2.0 for HCM transforms HCM processes by offering new approaches to learning catalogs, employee directories, collaboration, and feedback," says Michelle Newell, senior director of HCM applications marketing at Oracle. "By leveraging current versions of Oracle HCM applications and Oracle technology, organizations can benefit from Web 2.0 capabilities today."
Security Is Key Although Web 2.0 components may be intriguing for many HR managers, some companies fear that sensitive information may be leaked through these emerging tools. However, managing and tracking activities within a secure Oracle enterprise environment can provide the necessary controls to protect confidential information, Newell says. "Oracle's integrated stack of applications and technology enables organizations to collaborate using Web 2.0 tools with minimal security risk," she says.
Enterprise 2.0 for HCM builds on the Oracle E-Business Suite Human Resources Management System and PeopleSoft Enterprise Human Capital Management. Pre-integrated Employee 2.0 solutions will be available for both platforms by year's end.
Oracle WebCenter, a component of Oracle Fusion Middleware, securely integrates select capabilities from Oracle HCM applications into Web-based portals for unified Web applications that offer Web 2.0 components.
Investment Returns "Enterprise 2.0 for HCM is the next wave of strategic talent management," Newell says. "It increases employee engagement and helps an organization gain a maximum return on its most strategic investment—its people."
