New PeopleSoft Enterprise HCM 8.3 to 9.0 Upgrade Pack — All Gain, No Pain

A new, free upgrade package containing an upgrade template and documentation that efficiently completes the two-step jump from PeopleSoft Enterprise HCM 8.3 to 8.9 and ultimately to 9.0 has just been made available on Oracle's Customer Connection Web site.

The upgrade pack reduces technical complexity and production downtime and is designed to help businesses move more rapidly to the latest innovations in their HCM applications. "Organizations that see value in PeopleSoft Enterprise HCM 9.0 don't need to let fears about two-step upgrade difficulties deter them from moving up from their earlier release," says Diane West, development manager in Oracle's Enterprise Upgrade Group.

The upgrade pack reduces risk by assuring that no crucial steps in either of the two separate upgrade processes are overlooked. And through a series of Oracle-certified optimizations, the template removes any unnecessary steps, which reduces downtime for this two-step upgrade. West adds that the upgrade pack is supported, tested, and certified through Oracle's standard release operation procedures.

The pack consists of an upgrade template that contains all the steps necessary to go from 8.3 to 9.0. "Once the template is in place, PeopleTools Change Assistant displays a series of manual and automatic upgrade steps,” West explains. When organizations complete the manual steps, including tasks such as cleansing data and metadata, the remaining steps are then launched and completed automatically. "Throughout this process, PeopleTools Change Assistant tracks the upgrade progress and assures that each task is completed correctly,” she says.
