New Oracle On Demand Load Testing Services Mitigate Risk of System Changes

To mitigate the risk of system changes such as implementations, upgrades, and patches, Oracle has launched On Demand Load Testing Services to test the capacity and load characteristics of customers’ Oracle instance.

“Customers have been demanding testing services as part of Oracle On Demand’s suite of services, especially with new product releases hitting the market,” says Marc Fiedler, vice president, product management, Oracle On Demand. “Because the service requires highly specialized know-how and sophisticated tools, it’s an ideal option to outsource to Oracle On Demand.”

Powered by Oracle Load Testing for Web Applications, a key component of the Oracle Application Testing Suite, the new services provide a thorough, systematic testing approach that supplements ITIL change and release management processes.

And because the services are scalable, they can be applied to a range of environments, from small, mission-critical deployments to high-volume applications with complex business flows.

Four-Phase Process
On Demand Load Testing Services analyze the behavior of systems under a profile of loads, chosen from a predetermined set of business transactions, to approximate expected system load.

In this way, organizations can determine if their system and infrastructure have adequate capacity to accommodate anticipated peak workload and the available headroom (excess capacity) to accommodate any increases—before a load-induced failure occurs.

Each load test consists of four phases:

  1. Assessment. Identification of customer objectives, so that tests closely match customer workload and objectives.

  2. Automation. Creation of automated test scripts that simulate customer workload and that can be run repetitively.

  3. Execution. Execution of multiple cycles of the test scripts, with performance monitoring tools in place to determine system capacity and any available headroom.

  4. Analysis and reporting. Analysis of performance data gathered and creation of a report detailing key performance metrics.
