New White Paper by Leading Market Research Firm Reveals Surging Interest in Application Outsourcing
A 2008 IDC white paper sponsored by Oracle reveals a surge of interest in the business transformation that application outsourcing can make possible.
"Forty percent of IT respondents cited the value of outsourcing in improving linkages between business processes and IT, leveraging standardization, and consolidation as leading approaches," writes Rona Shuchat in the white paper titled "Application Outsourcing: Leveraging Its Intrinsic Benefits."
Nearly the same number of line-of-business (LOB) executives sees the value of outsourcing as a tool to "refocus staff on strategic direction," Shuchat writes.
And of 500 executive respondents, "nearly 25 percent expressed interest in outsourcing as a means to transform," the report adds.
Driving Business Transformation
The IDC white paper documents the ways that application outsourcing itself has transformed in recent years.
Today, application outsourcing is about more than off-loading IT workload. It can drive transformation through standardization, industry and engineering best practices, and prebuilt template solutions.
The result: customers can "more readily adapt their own solution portfolio to address the ever-changing dynamics of the marketplace," Shuchat writes.
Choosing a Mature, Experienced Partner
The IDC white paper also includes a guide for selecting the right application outsourcing partner, adding that it is increasingly important to choose a partner with "the necessary maturity, experience, and breadth of services."
One such choice is Oracle's On Demand portfolio, the white paper concludes.
"Its broad solution set is built on a foundation of best-of-breed Oracle-based software that is driven by highly skilled and certified professionals who are dedicated to achieving service delivery excellence through the efficient use of engineered best practices," the report concludes.
