Government Organizations Protect Their Operations from Control Failures with Oracle’s Governance, Risk, and Compliance Applications

In the wake of last year’s report from the Government Accountability Office that identified an ongoing lack of integrated financial systems, IT security, and adherence to federal accounting standards among government agencies, public sector organizations are turning to comprehensive solutions to manage governance, risk, and compliance (GRC) policies.

Federal agencies need to submit timely and accurate financial information, achieve compliance across geographically dispersed departments and systems, and rein in costs resulting from an unrelenting stream of new laws.

Oracle’s governance, risk, and compliance application suite, a comprehensive portfolio of solutions that combine GRC intelligence, process and content management, and controls enforcement, helps federal, state, and local entities build stronger internal controls, manage compliance and risks, and demonstrate better management practices. The suite offers the additional benefit of working with Oracle’s E-Business Suite, PeopleSoft Enterprise, Siebel, Hyperion, and JD Edwards applications, as well as third-party programs from SAP and others.

New to the Oracle GRC application suite is the Application Access Controls Governor Release 8, which allows agencies to manage and enforce user access policies and procedures within multiple enterprise resource planning (ERP) applications and prevent segregation of duties (SOD) violations before they occur rather than reporting violations after the fact.

“This enables administrators to define SOD controls at the access point or entitlement level and enforce those controls across multiple platforms through real-time monitoring and prevention of inappropriate user access,” says Stephanie Holmeen, Oracle product marketing director for GRC applications.

In addition, Application Access Controls Governor supports remediation of SOD violations with a simulation feature that empowers administrators to understand the impact of proposed control changes before promoting changes into production. “This capability greatly reduces the time and effort required for both violation cleanup and ongoing management of SOD controls,” Holmeen says.
