New Oracle Retail Data Model Enables Insight-Driven Retail Intelligence
To help retailers accelerate the design and implementation of an enterprise data warehouse, Oracle has introduced the new Oracle Retail Data Model, a standards-based data model prebuilt for Oracle data warehouses.
Combining data mining, online analytical processing (OLAP), and dimensional models, the new solution helps deliver industry-specific metrics and insights so retailers can act immediately to boost both top- and bottom-line performance.
Built for the Oracle Database platform, including both the HP Oracle Database Machine and HP Oracle Exadata Storage Servers, Oracle Retail Data Model is generally available and downloadable from the Oracle Technology Network (OTN).
"Oracle Retail Data Model combines Oracle's deep retail and data warehousing expertise to create a comprehensive, prebuilt, pretuned solution for retailers," said Ray Roccaforte, vice president of data warehousing and analytics at Oracle.
"As a result, customers can jump-start the design and implementation of a retail data warehouse, help ensure a rapid, predictable deployment and integration—and achieve a positive ROI more quickly," adds Roccaforte.
Faster, More Profitable Decision-Making
Oracle Retail Data Model includes more than 1,200 industry-specific measures and key performance indicators for every phase of retail operations, from point-of-sale and inventory through merchandising, promotions, and order management.
The solution is designed to serve the specific needs of a variety of retail segments, including grocery stores, specialty store chains, mass merchants, convenience stores, and multichannel retailers.
Oracle Retail Data Model supports a wide range of advanced analytics, including
- Out-of-stock forecasting
- Hidden patterns of loss prevention
- Contribution and market-basket analysis
- Product affinity
- Customer clustering and segmentation
- Halo impact
- Promotional lift
Rapid Implementation, Rapid ROI
Because it is prebuilt and pretested, Oracle Retail Data Model can save customers hundreds of person-months in customer warehouse development. In addition, compliance with retail industry standards ensures interoperability with other legacy systems.
Going forward, retailers avoid creating additional data silos, since they can build a data warehouse from virtually any point within their operations. At the same time, it becomes easier to build future analytical applications.
"The Oracle Retail Data Model is not just technology; it is a strategic business tool to support and drive business performance," said Glenn T. Nishida, chief technology officer, ABC Stores.
