Anticipation Grows as Oracle Database 11g Beta Progresses

An international mix of Oracle customers and partners are lining up to participate in the ongoing Oracle Database 11g Beta program. "People are eager to see how the world's No. 1 database will help them continue to compete and thrive," says Deb Migliore, director of beta programs management. "We're getting hundreds of candidates applying right now from the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. As of mid-January, participants from more than 24 countries worldwide have been accepted into the Oracle Database 11g Beta program, and this represents only a fraction of the applications we're getting," says Migliore.

What Participants Are Looking For
"With more video, images, and instant communications becoming the norm in business, companies are dealing with rapidly expanding amounts of information and the expectation of 24/7 availability," says Willie Hardie, vice president of database product marketing. A recent study of Independent Oracle Users Group (IOUG) members found that 31 percent are managing databases larger than 1TB in size. That's up from 13 percent at the beginning of 2006. "Compounding the situation is the expansion of regulatory requirements that demand businesses retain information for a longer period of time and report on how they're using it," Hardie says.

"Participants want to learn how Oracle Database 11g can help them better manage very high volumes of structured and unstructured data, and reduce the risk from planned and unplanned downtime," says Hardie.

See the March issue of the Oracle Database Insider newsletter for an interview with IOUG President and beta program participant, Ari Kaplan.

What Oracle Is Looking For
We're inviting our customers and partners to perform in-depth testing of Oracle Database 11g and its key new features in particular. We're also interested in organizations that can run full regression tests of their current applications with Oracle Database 11g.

Prospect form: If interested in applying for participation, fill out the Server Technologies Beta Programs prospect form.
