Oracle Unveils Industry's First Event-Driven Middleware Suite

Oracle recently released Oracle Event-Driven Architecture (EDA) Suite, the industry's first integrated, standards-based product offering to help organizations build, deploy and manage event-driven applications. Companies in a broad range of industries—including financial services, commercial banking, securities trading, telecommunications, pharmaceuticals, retail, government and manufacturing—can now use Oracle EDA Suite to become a real-time enterprise by enabling them to build, deploy, and manage EDAs.

Industry Momentum
Leading manufacturing and distribution companies are using EDAs to optimize supply chain and vendor management; leading retailers are using EDAs to optimize inventory management using RFID; and global financial services institutions are using EDAs to optimize financial positions and hedging strategies in the financial markets.

"Business has always been event driven," says Kevin Clugage, the Product Director for Oracle Fusion Middleware. "Oracle understands that it is important to provide a way for customers to quickly build the infrastructure to capture those events, analyze them, and respond in real-time."

Increase Responsiveness; Lower Costs
Event-Driven Architecture is a key component of an event-driven SOA, sometimes called "SOA 2.0", that combines event and service infrastructure to deliver a truly flexible and responsive IT infrastructure. "An EDA approach does two important things," says Clugage, "it allows companies to quickly adapt infrastructure to define and manage new events as business needs change, and also allows them to automate event processing to be more responsive day-to-day, while lowering costs."

EDA Goes Mainstream
"As mainstream enterprises begin to adopt service-oriented architecture on a broad scale, they are beginning to see a need for another complementary design approach—event-driven architecture," said Roy Schulte, vice president and distinguished analyst, Gartner. "Enterprises striving to improve their responsiveness are leveraging event-driven applications to respond quickly and precisely to rapidly changing conditions."
