Oracle Bests SAP in HCM "Shootout"
In head-to-head competition presented before a group of the HR industry's most experienced executives, Oracle prevailed over SAP as the more technologically advanced human capital management (HCM) platform.
The "tech shootout," held last fall at the HR Technology Conference & Exposition in Chicago, asked more than 450 human resource executives, professionals, and industry leaders to vote for an overall winner in live product demonstrations that compared Oracle and SAP.
In a competition entitled Clash of the Titans: The Second Annual Oracle & SAP Shootout, the two companies were challenged to demonstrate how their respective HCM offerings help companies solve three typical HR problems written by technology columnist and HR Technology Co-Chairman Bill Kutik.
Oracle's PeopleSoft Enterprise HCM won out over SAP in two out of three problems—manager empowerment and workforce planning/talent management. SAP won in the reducing healthcare costs problem by using partner software from VitalSpring Technologies.
"The attendees at our shootouts are experienced HR people who know what they're looking at and voted Oracle the winner in two out of the three problems both companies had to solve," Kutik says. "Oracle clearly demonstrated thought leadership with solutions based on products that address real business challenges."
With features such as Oracle XML Publisher, template-based transactions, and Oracle Business Intelligence, Oracle HCM applications eliminate disparate business processes and unify enterprisewide data. As a result, companies are able to drive organizational performance, cultivate learning, and promote employee engagement and development.
"Through continued, innovative product development, we are responding to customer feedback and building meaningful business intelligence capabilities into our HCM applications, equipping companies to make smarter, faster workforce decisions," said Oracle Vice President HCM Product Strategy Gretchen Alarcon, who presented the demonstrations.
"We are also dedicated to reducing the time employees spend on day-to-day administration, so they can focus on delivering strategic value to the organization. Winning the HR technology shootout reinforces our global market leadership and demonstrates that our commitment to thought leadership is paying off," Alarcon added.
