The ability to protect non-Oracle applications from failure was not part of Oracle RAC 10g Release 1. With the advent of Oracle RAC 10g Release 2, non-Oracle applications – such as SAP applications – running on a cluster can benefit from the same level of protection as existing Oracle Database processes.
Oracle has created an Oracle Clusterware tool, the
SAP Control Utility (SAPCTL),
to enable SAP on Oracle customers to easily manage SAP high availability resources. SAPCTL provides an
easy-to-use interface to administer the resources, scripts, and dependencies
of Oracle Clusterware and SAP high availability components.
SAPCTL consolidates the functionality of the Oracle tools by enabling you to easily manage
the SAP Enqueue Service, the SAP Replication Service, and the virtual IP address used by the SAP Enqueue Service.
