FASHION PANEL DISCUSSION

"Opening Up The Business To Consumer Contribution"

Oracle's latest research (The New Retail Democracy, March 2014), reveals that today's consumer enjoys playing an active role in their shopping experience. But where do retailers draw the line when opening up their business to consumer contribution? Should the consumer have greater influence on range, assortment, pricing and even marketing strategy – or should they simply be able to improve their own, individual shopping experience? We ask, how open for input is today's fashion business? And more importantly, how is this being operationalised?

Chair:
Dusan Rnic, Vice President, UK & Ireland, Oracle Retail

Panelists:
Leanne Coleman, Senior Buyer - Ladies Fashion Brands, Shop Direct

Andrea Morgan-Vandome - Vice President Strategy, Oracle Retail

PHONES 4U: Gary Ellwood, Head of IT Strategy, Architecture and Solutions & Tim Price, Head of Enterprise Architecture

'Commerce Without Boundaries in an Omni Channel World'

Customers interact with an organisation and associate with a brand, they do not think about channels. The customer of today expects a seamless customer experience - whether it be a traditional bricks and mortar retail experience, online, tablet or smartphone, telesales and customer service or social interactions. The challenge for all retail organisations goes beyond simple convergence of channels; customer journeys must be able to traverse multiple touch points and switch seamlessly between them. This presentation describes how Phones 4u is leading the industry to address these challenges.

Phones 4u is one of the UK's leading independent mobile retailers, offering multiple networks and smartphone brands and the UK's biggest independent retailer of 4G, has joined the Oracle Retail Industry Forum speaker programme. Having started life in 1996, Phones 4u has grown from a single shop to become one of the leading independent mobile phone retailers on the UK high street.

He is presently the Head of IT Strategy, Architecture and Solutions at Phones 4u, leading the architecture team through a significant transformation programme, which impacts all areas of the business and IT.

Tim Price, Head of Enterprise Architecture, Phones 4u

Tim is an experienced IT leader with a proven track record of delivering complex business and technology change. He has worked in a range of industries since he graduated in 1997 across start-ups to global enterprises in Telco, managed services, Financial and Retail areas. OVS - ITALIAN FASHION: Marco Grieco, Business Innovation and Change Director, OVS Spa

'Too much complexity in the retail environment: how to make our life easier?'

The retail environment is becoming inevitably more and more complex. Negative consumer confidence on major European markets, contraction of expenses on "non primary need" products, increased competition on all key markets, greater sophistication of consumers requiring an enlargement of product portfolio and a greater level of "customization", reinforcement of multichannel interaction, introduction of brand new business models in the market reshaping business rules: these are only some examples, but the reality out there points out dozens of similar forces all of them pushing established companies into change patterns. What could make managers life easier, and help in making crucial decisions in a shorter period? How can we simplify something that is becoming more and more complex? How can we leverage practically an all the information that companies are starting to have?

This presentation describes the approach OVS - Italian Fashion decided to take to solve the problem, going through some practical examples on assortment planning where complexity is king of the scene.

Marco Grieco, Business Innovation and Change Director, OVS Spa

Marco is an experienced manager in the retail sector, having lead crucial transformational projects throughout his career for key players worldwide . Guided by clear long term vision, belief that only breakthrough initiatives can change the shape of established organizations, commitment and rigor in execution, he joined OVS (formerly Gruppo Coin) in 2013 to head important innovation projects on key areas of the business, taking a major stake in decisions involving assortment planning, supply chain, business model innovation, technology enhancement. Within the last year, he's been able to execute projects contributing for an overall 1.0% L4L growth on the network leveraging on multichannel contact with the clients, and a strong redesign of the distribution techniques to reduce stock-out phenomena. Next short term target is bring the Assortment planning processes to a new level of sophistication leveraging on the partnership with Oracle to introduce new technologies in the business with a clear goal: "Provide the customers with the right product, in the right store, at the right time".
