Exadata win over IBM at Immonet
CUSTOMER
BACKGROUND
Immonet, a subsidiary of German media company Axel Springer, provides cross-media real estate marketing via the Internet, newspapers, and other channels. The Immonet.de website is the number two German property portal with approximately 1.8 million unique visitors per month and over than 950,000 current online offerings. The company has turnover of some €13 million and employees 190 people in Hamburg.
THE BUSINESS CASE
To Immonet had set up a datawarehouse to manage its growing volumes of data but had serious performance issues. Queries took too long and decision-makers were not getting information when required.
THE SALES PROCESS
For Oracle Germany the deal was virtually signed, sealed and delivered by Oracle Platinum partner Information Systems Engineering (ISE). ISE was successfully involved in the first Exadata project worldwide, at Allegro in Poland, whose CIO at the time, Christian Maar, later became CEO of Immonet. Allegro had also suffered from long query times and ISE had recommended Exadata as data warehouse platform.
When Christian Maar was faced with similar DW issues at Immonet he turned to ISE to build-up the data warehouse on the same technology. Immonet also runs IBM Power7-machines for their productive environments and therefore IBM posed an element of competitive threat. But with the CEO championing Exadata, when IBM tried to win the business the only real issue for Oracle was to work within the customer’s limited budget.
Having ISE as a partner is a tremendous plus for Oracle. At its own expense the company has set up an Exadata TestCenter – the first and only Exadata testcenter in Germany – and has carried out many PoCs for Germany customers.
It has also invested in a Exalogic Quarter Rack of Exalogic – for delivery to a new hosting center in Nuremberg in September- and therefore ISE will have the first EXA-demo center, which demonstrates again the great pioneer approach of this innovative partner.
ISE supports Oracle DWH events with live demos and reference cases, has regular meetings with Oracle Sales, and even runs banner advertisements at Premier League soccer club FC Nürenberg’s stadium. The company, employing 60 people, was founded in 1992 and is specialized in the consulting and implementation of integrated IT strategies with a focus on Oracle Database applications.
And now having sold Exadata to the same champion (Christian Maar) at two customers – Allegro and Immonet – ISE also now has an invaluable reference speaker.
ISE has a 100% VAD strategy and for this reason the Exadata order process was handled by VAD Techdata Azlan. VAD Techdata-Azlan also supports Oracle and partners by carrying out all implementation tests for the Exadata specializations within their specialization center.
