So What Exactly Are Go-to-Market Initiatives (GTMi) and Product Focus Areas (PFA)?

Go-to-Market Initiatives (GTMi) and Product Focus Areas (PFA) are offerings for partners who want to participate in selected product, market and solution channel activities. Participation in these activities helps to promote your company, products and services within Oracle.

GTMi and Product Focus Area programs can span several years, supporting many new product introductions or versions. Early stages focus on defining the market and/or solutions. The central goal is to expand market share and reach and build business for the Oracle community in the solution area. At each stage, GTMi and Product Focus Area partners stay connected to what is happening at Oracle in their focus area and have access to special opportunities to market and sell with Oracle.

Overview of Go-to-Market Initiatives (GTMi) and Product Focus Areas (PFA)

Oracle Corporation provides a broad offering of software products and solutions supporting business across many different markets and industries. Oracle's solution footprint depends on products and services supplied by partner companies. Planning and development of these solutions requires a high level of commitment and coordination between Oracle and its partners in order to meet requirements in an ever-evolving software market.

As a part of Oracle's PartnerNetwork program, teams are dedicated to build partnering communities and sales channel participation around a specific industry, market or solution. These "Go-to-Market" teams form very early in the development process, often well before a product or solution is released to the market. Partners participating in these early stages have an opportunity to help influence the development process and certainly benefit from a close interaction with Oracle.

As products and solutions become more defined, Oracle's GTMi teams begin to assemble strong marketing, sales and support channels around their industry or market focus. The channel building process allows many different types of partnering organizations to provide important roles within the channel. GTMi channel partners join Oracle in conducting special go-to-market activities that drive business around product announcements and market events.

In a similar way, Oracle provides "Product Focus Area" teams that perform much the same role as the "Go-to-Market" initiative teams but focus on building a community around a specific Oracle product group.

How Can My Company Benefit From GTMis and Product Focus Area Participation?

If you are a new partner to Oracle, you may have asked yourself questions such as:

"What kind of products does Oracle have, and how do they relate to my business"
"We have a great solution built on the Oracle platform, how do we get known by the right people at Oracle"
"There's so much happening at Oracle, but how do I focus on what they are doing in my specialty area"

These are the types of questions that are answered through participation in GTMis and Product Focus Area.

As a member of Oracle's PartnerNetwork, your company already has access to a tremendous number of resources. The Oracle PartnerNetwork (OPN) GTMis and Product Focus Areas give you an opportunity to focus those resources and align them with your company's core strengths. Simply indicating your interest in participating in an initiative allows Oracle to begin to tailor your partnering experience to help you become more successful in your area of interest.

In addition, most GTMis and Product Focus Area groups maintain a consolidated 'Dashboard' on the OPN Portal giving you a single view of selected training programs, market and industry perspectives, news, events, current marketing opportunities, technology development and other resources selected by the GTMi team. This area of the OPN portal site will not only keep you up to date on what's happening at Oracle in a specific area, but is designed to give you a step-by-step path to becoming more involved.

You can participate in more than one initiative at a time and many initiative programs are designed to complement one another. For example, the Database Product Focus Area is a large partner community built around Oracle's industry leading database product. A complement to the Database Product Focus Area is the Grid GTMi that is built around global sales of the Grid Computing Platform.

In general, participation is free and can bring your company such benefits as:

  • Gain access to market or solution specific "Dashboards" focusing program resources.
  • Gain visibility of your solution or service by appropriate Oracle teams.
  • Access strategic communications about news and events in your area of interest.
  • Join in events and meetings focused in your area of interest.
  • Receive specific resources and program support selected for participants.

Types of Go-to-Market Initiatives

GTMis are grouped into four types:

Market Supporting a specific market or market segment
Application Supporting a specific application or application solution
Industry Supporting an industry segment
