Strategic Direction and Vision
Presentation Highlights by Larry Ellison
Lawrence J. Ellison has been Oracle's Chief Executive Officer and a director since he co-founded the company in June 1977. As part of the January 18, 2005 Oracle/PeopleSoft launch event, Ellison reiterated Oracle's commitment to PeopleSoft and J.D. Edwards customers.
Ongoing Support for PeopleSoft until 2013
"We said at the beginning we'd support the PeopleSoft product for a decade, for ten years, and we intend to do that. But we're going to do more than just support those products. We intend to enhance those products."
Dedicated Response
"If you call us on the phone and ask us a question, if there's a problem with the applications, we'll fix it. If you've got a question, we'll answer it. We have worked very, very hard to retain 90% of PeopleSoft's and J.D. Edwards' support teams and 90% of their development teams. 90% of their support teams will be working and improving those applications and supporting the customers they've been supporting for the last several years."
Support for Competing Technologies
"Our intention is to keep supporting the IBM database, and IBM middleware until 2013 at least, unless IBM should go out of business between now and then and that's just something we can't control. So far, I think they look pretty safe. Same thing with BEA WebLogic, we'll continue to support BEA WebLogic."
Commitment to Standards-Based Applications
"We intend to complete development for a new suite of tools for developing the next generation of applications. And there are several interesting things with the next generation of tools, but perhaps the single most interesting thing about them is that for the first time a major application company is going to commit to an absolute standards-based development environment."
Beyond Process Automation
"We think those process automation applications are extremely important. We're not de-emphasizing those. But for the last 20 years, the whole industry has focused on process automation and improved efficiency of process automation. And information access has been almost an afterthought to be layered on top of the process automation."
