Applications Roadmap and PeopleSoft Customer Support Delivery
Presentation Highlights by John Wookey
John Wookey is senior vice president at Oracle Corp., responsible for the strategic direction and development of JD Edwards, PeopleSoft and Oracle business applications. As part of the January 18, 2005 Oracle/PeopleSoft launch event, Wookey presented his vision and strategy for Oracle applications development for the coming years.
Aligning the Development Organizations
"One of our goals for the balance of this year is to create as much consistency between the Oracle development organization and the PeopleSoft organization as possible, so we can collaborate on projects together in the future, whether they're Oracle projects, PeopleSoft projects, or the new products that are part of our 'Project Fusion' that Larry talked about."
A Common Technology Framework
"The idea is simple—we want the next-generation-age application architecture to be the base for all applications development going forward. We want to think about it not only from the standpoint of delivering applications, but also in terms of the interesting things we've done with data hubs or the industry transaction basis, and use it as improvement for the architecture."
The Successor Product Timeline
"In 2005, we have continuing releases of the PeopleSoft, J.D. Edwards, and Oracle product lines. We start introducing the fusion architecture. Next year we continue releases of PeopleSoft Enterprise, JD Edwards Enterprise One, and JD Edwards World products; followed by the next release of the Oracle E-Business Suite. We'll also start showing the first use of our fusion technology, especially around things like the Customer Data Hub, the Product Data Hub, and a clinical transaction base for the pharmaceutical industry that we'll be introducing."
"We'll take this architecture and start introducing it around some new concepts that let people understand how the flexibility of this architecture, the service-oriented model, and the Java development platform can help people solve a wide variety of problems either around a specific business focus like managing your customer information, or around an industry focus like healthcare. Through 2007 and 2008, we expect to start delivering the first set of successor applications."
Continued Support for PeopleSoft Products
"
It's important for everyone to realize that even while we start introducing successor products, we'll continue to support Oracle applications customers, J.D. Edwards customers, and PeopleSoft customers on their existing technology investments."
