Using Hyperion to Achieve Management Excellence
Boehnlein and the members of his team have found that Hyperion software provides an invaluable tool to aid in the implementation of management excellence principles. Boehnlein has discovered that Hyperion software can help power a more agile business environment, for example. “Agility is ingrained in Stryker Endoscopy’s performance. It permeates our entire culture,” says Boehnlein. “So when you think about the back office and the finance side of things, we need to be equally fast.”
Besides allowing the company to close its books in two days, the Hyperion system gives finance team members a view of Stryker Endoscopy’s actual performance, its budget performance, and its projected performance. “Using that real-time information, we can make adjustments to our projections for a given month and really impact the performance that we’ll see in expenses as well as revenues,” says Boehnlein.
Enterprisewide Alignment
Alignment, another key pillar of management excellence, receives a boost from Stryker Endoscopy’s use of Hyperion software. “When it comes to alignment, the first lesson that really needs to be taken into consideration is a common platform,” emphasizes Boehnlein. “You’ve got to get all your divisions and all your people on the same sort of financial platform,” he adds. “Hyperion is the one place for us where all of our data comes together under a common platform. We utilize that data set to manage our information and our business at an executive level.”
Hyperion collects and consolidates data from Stryker Endoscopy divisions in locations as diverse as Israel; Puerto Rico; Dallas, Texas; and San Jose, California. This empowers Stryker Endoscopy executives with the ability to look at information at an enterprisewide level. “Executives and directors can use that top-level information to make decisions and know that the dissemination of that information will have the same meaning across the company,” says Boehnlein.
Finally, Stryker Endoscopy is helping its employees work smart by using Oracle Business Intelligence software in conjunction with Hyperion software to get information out to its users in real time and empower them to make better decisions. For example, the company’s sales force can access the Oracle Business Intelligence application for information on orders, shipments, and quotas. “They can access it on a daily basis and know exactly where they stand relative to their competition and also relative to what their goals are,” says Boehnlein. “It allows them in-the-field access to an online data tool that’s really accelerating their performance.” And because of smart choices like Oracle Business Intelligence used in conjunction with the concepts of management excellence, Stryker Endoscopy is well on its way to globalization success.
