Seven Reasons Why JD Edwards Looks Good in Red
EnterpriseOne customers are building their businesses on the Oracle technology stack
By Monica Mehta, June 2009
JD Edwards EnterpriseOne users have been successfully employing their software to meet business requirements for a long time. Since acquiring JD Edwards as part of the PeopleSoft acquisition, Oracle has continued to support and enhance the JD Edwards EnterpriseOne product line through its Applications Unlimited plan and Lifetime Support Policy.
One of the distinguishing virtues of the JD Edwards EnterpriseOne architecture is its open platform strategy. Customers have benefitted from a broad matrix of options for hardware, operating systems, databases, and web middleware. Being part of Oracle has its advantages. Among their platform choices, customers can now run JD Edwards EnterpriseOne on a complete Oracle technology stack, including Oracle VM, Oracle Enterprise Linux, Oracle Database 11g, Oracle Fusion Middleware, and Oracle Enterprise Manager. Running JD Edwards EnterpriseOne on a complete Oracle stack offers users advanced capabilities that can better meet their business challenges. Here are seven good reasons to “go Red Stack.”
- Assure system uptime and performance with Oracle Enterprise Manager. A system isn’t providing any benefit to its users if it is down or performing poorly. The Oracle Red Stack, Oracle Enterprise Manager, and the Application Management Pack for JD Edwards EnterpriseOne, gives system administrators a top-down view of all servers and their infrastructure, managed from a single console. This allows administrators to provide better proactive monitoring of servers, faster troubleshooting, and a higher level of service to end users. “In the end, the business user experiences more uptime and better system performance, and the business benefits from fewer IT expenditures,” says Gary Grieshaber, Senior Director of Product Strategy for JD Edwards.
- Give end users more control over the content and formatting of their reports. Also exclusive to Oracle’s technology portfolio, Oracle BI Publisher is integrated with JD Edwards EnterpriseOne and allows users to design more robust output templates for their reports, with features such as pictures, logos, and font control. BI Publisher also allows business users the ability to write ad hoc queries into the JD Edwards data, and run reports through common desktop tools that BI Publisher integrates with, such as Microsoft Word and Excel. “JD Edwards users no longer have to use third-party applications to compensate for the lack of BI Publisher,” says Grieshaber. “It’s part of a complete Oracle stack.” To further enhance the productivity and experience for end users, Oracle plans to offer integration among other Oracle productivity tools such as calendars, email, and Web 2.0 tools.
- Reduce the cost, complexity and risk of integrating applications within Oracle’s portfolio. Should evolving business needs require adding new software, the Oracle Red Stack offers the flexibility of seamlessly connecting to Oracle’s best-of-breed applications that deliver project management, demand planning, forecasting, and content management. JD Edwards EnterpriseOne customers have easier access to a wide variety of applications, including Oracle CRM On Demand. Customers can spend less time and money integrating these applications because Oracle’s Application Integration Architecture and Process Integration Packs provide a flexible, standards-based framework for building resilient business processes.
- Improve performance and increase flexibility of business processes. The Oracle technology stack helps customers integrate JD Edwards EnterpriseOne with other applications even if those applications are not among Oracle’s portfolio. By adopting the principles of a service-oriented architecture (SOA), users gain a more flexible infrastructure, enabling better communication and interoperability between applications. Oracle’s Fusion Middleware family of products provides the necessary building blocks for customers to implement a service-oriented architecture. With Oracle SOA Suite, users are able to reengineer business processes with more agility, while experiencing less fragile application and platform upgrades and fewer service interruptions. “Fewer service interruptions mean a decrease in costs and drainage of resources,” says Grieshaber. “SOA also gives users the flexibility to reshuffle and extend their business enterprise without large increases in IT resources.”
- Simplify and Improve User Access and Security. With Oracle Access Manager, users can sign into all of their systems at once. This eliminates the need for multiple usernames and passwords, and helps enforce strong password and authentication policies. It provides a centralized framework for security and compliance enforcement. Also, Oracle’s technology adheres to the highest level of security through both internal security audits and external independent security evaluations. This means customers don’t have to worry about conducting their own system security auditsOracle does it for them.
- Increase productivity with a consistent user interface. As JD Edwards users switch from one Oracle application to another, Oracle’s standard User Interface design enables them to have a seamless design experience that incorporates the latest advances in UI design. “A standard design eliminates the time users spend learning how to navigate new interfaces, and increases their productivity,” says Grieshaber.
- Build enterprise IT on a trusted, reliable, rock-solid platform. Oracle’s JD Edwards EnterpriseOne is engineered and tested to work with Oracle’s core technologyOracle VM, Oracle Enterprise Linux, Oracle Database 11g and Oracle Fusion Middleware. This allows for a more reliable experience as users work with different applications. Also, Oracle’s technology and applications consistently garner the industry’s top rankingsOracle is the number one relational database in the world, with 49 percent of market share. With technology from Oracle at the core of the enterprise, customer get best-in-class performance that enables business to perform at its best.
