Applications Integration Architecture for Partners Helps Data Systems International Connect to Oracle JD Edwards

By: Alison Weiss, April 2008

Data Systems International, Inc., an Oracle Certified Advantage Partner, recently announced that its flagship dcLINK data collection solution achieved integration validations with Oracle's JD Edwards EnterpriseOne 8.12, Oracle's JD Edwards World A9.1, and the Oracle E-Business Suite 11.5.10 as part of the Oracle Partner Network Applications Integration Architecture for Partners Initiative. Oracle-validated integrations ensure standards compliance and certify the use of standard integration technologies with Oracle Partners.

Indeed, DSI has continually validated dcLINK to ensure that integration is successful, evolving the product as Oracle’s JD Edwards has evolved. Today, more than 2,000 dcLINK data collection solutions are integrated with Oracle’s JD Edwards applications in more than 47 countries. “There are some 50,000 plus individuals who pick up handheld device daily and interact with Oracle’s JD Edwards applications through our solution, dcLINK,” says Tom Bosch, DSI Vice President, Eastern Region

dcLINK provides two-way communication between Oracle's JD Edwards enterprise applications and data collection devices using RFID, bar code, voice, and mobile applications. It tracks inventory, assets, and time in production—at the warehouse and in the field. Using dcLINK, users can capture, validate, and process transactions in real-time and with increased accuracy. Bosch says, “When people think about data collection, they typically refer to just bar code scanners. What is unique to DSI is that dcLINK allows people to choose the type of data collection input they want to use. Barcodes and RFID can be accomplished with our one application. But there are companies that don’t want to tag everything, so we’ve added voice capabilities, too.”

Trek Bicycle Corp., the largest bicycle manufacturer in the U.S., credits dcLINK for helping it use its warehouse space more efficiently. "Our users no longer traffic back-and-forth to batch terminals — they have real feedback, right away. Putting real-time information in the hands of our warehouse personnel improved our productivity by more than 20 percent,” says Mike Bentheimer, Trek Bicycle Supply Chain Analyst.

Diamond Foods, Inc., chose dcLINK automated data collection to integrate with Oracle’s JD Edwards EnterpriseOne, Finished Goods Tracking, and their legacy systems. dcLINK lets them capture real-time data during production and on their warehouse floors, enabling them to make timely decisions and manage costs. “We’ve been able to double our production without doubling our staff using dcLINK,” said Ed Hickenbottom, Diamond Foods Vice President of Information Technology.

Bosch believes this ability to scale to fit a customer’s entire operation is part of dcLINK’s appeal. With validated integration for Oracle’s JD Edwards enterprise applications, users can update multiple systems or differing versions seamlessly. This makes dcLINK a good choice for companies like Diamond Foods that use multiple enterprise systems or plan to upgrade systems in the near future. And keeping in tandem with Oracle development plans, Bosch adds, “We’re developing to support Oracle Fusion integration. When Oracle Fusion applications are available, we’ll be right there.”

“DSI is an exceptional partner to work with,” says Curt Johnson, Oracle Director Vertical ISVs. “They understand application integration and work closely with their customers and Oracle to provide the best solutions. They have a very royal customer base as a result.”
