Hays Medical Center (Hays, Kansas) is a private, not-for-profit hospital formed by the 1991 merger of two religiously affiliated facilities, and provides the only tertiary level services in the region. HMC's DeBakey Heart Institute provides heart surgery for the western half of the state. Additionally the 158-bed facility provides medical, surgical and pediatric care along with cardiac, neonatal and intensive care units; cancer, joint care, diagnostic imaging and eye surgery center; skilled care, home health, and outpatient behavioral health and rehabilitation. A total of 6,677 admission, 148,368 outpatient procedures and 6,677 in patient admissions were documented last year, while the medical group’s specialty and rural health clinics accounted for more than 108,425 office visits.
Hays Medical was looking for a way to integrate legacy systems to new applications using open standards. Hays partnered with Oracle Consulting to implement the Oracle B2B Engine, Oracle Healthcare adaptor and Oracle BPEL Process Manager. The result was faster, easier to access patient information and was lower total development costs. The critical applications being integrated are MediTech and GE Vitals. In the future, Hays is planning to leverage Oracle technology to simplify its B2B interactions with trading partners using the HL7 standard.
