Sealing Devices Inc., founded in 1963, is a family-owned company and one of the leading manufacturers and distributors of industrial and electronic seals, gaskets, and sealants in North America.

Sealing Devices wanted to make sure the solution it chose would be able to grow with the company. "Our company installed two ERP systems in its history, and we wanted to make this one the last one," Harris said. At first, it looked at upgrading and adding onto its existing system. But cobbling together an appropriate system would have meant working with 12 different vendors and as many support centers. "It just didn't seem practical or cost-effective in the long term," Harris said. As an alternative, Sealing Devices began investigating Oracle products. "Oracle had everything: a single vendor, a single instance. That was extremely attractive and a big part of our decision-making process," Harris said. Even as Sealing Devices evaluated other systems, it kept returning to Oracle. "We used Oracle as a benchmark when we looked at other software packages," he added. After a year of evaluating software, including packages from several other vendors, Sealing Devices chose Oracle E-Business Suite. "We wanted to make sure we bought from a financially sound company that was going to be around for a long time," Harris said. "When I did the cost comparison between upgrading our existing system and buying all of the Oracle products we needed, including hardware, I found an insignificant difference. It only cost us a little more to go with a brand-new, single instance system that is Web-enabled," Harris said. "For us, it was an easy decision."
