Preface

This guide and Oracle Rdb Extension to Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Installation Guide provide instructions for installing and using the Oracle Rdb Extensions to the Oracle Enterprise Manager 10 g system.



Intended Audience

This document is intended for anyone responsible for using Oracle Enterprise Manager 10 g to manager Oracle Rdb environments on hp OpenVMS Alpha and Itanium systems.

Terminology

In this document, the name of the operating system, hp OpenVMS Alpha, has been shortened to OpenVMS.

Typographic Conventions

The following table describes the conventions used in the text of this documentation set.

Convention Meaning
monospace The use of Monospace type indicates OpenVMS DCL commands, directory names, user names, path names, and file names.
brackets [ ] Words enclosed in brackets indicate key names. For example, [Enter]. Note that brackets have a different meaning when used in command syntax.
italics The sue of Italic type indicates a logical, including logical portions of file names. It is also used for emphasis.
UPPERCASE Uppercase letters indicate Structured Query Language (SQL) reserved words, initialization parameters, and environment logicals.

Command Syntax

OpenVMS command syntax is displayed in monospace font. The  "$" character at the beginning of command examples should not be entered at the prompt.

Convention Meaning
- (hyphen) A hyphen indicates a command that is too long to fit on a single line. Enter the line as printed or enter it as a single line without a hyphen. For example:
copy disk$server25:[oracle10g20.rdbms.admin]*.sql - 
disk$server2:[oracle.rdbms.admin]

braces { } Braces indicate required items. For example, DEFINE {macro1}
brackets [ ] Brackets indicate optional items. For example: cvtcrt termname [outfile]

Note that brackets have a diffirent meaning when used in regular text.

ellipses . . . Ellipses indicate an arbitrary number of similar items. For example:
CHKVAL fieldname value1 value2... valueN
italics Italic type indicates a variable or placeholder. Substitute a value for the logical. For example, directory_path .
vertical line | A vertical line indicates a choice within braces or brackets. For example,
SIZE filesize [K|M]
