This is the recommended database migration path to follow when using the services available from the Oracle Platform Migrations Group (PMG).
Follow the steps outlined below to perform your migration according to the recommended migration path. Please read through all steps as you will find useful links here for each phase of your migration project:
1 - Install and Set Up the Hardware for your Oracle Database 11g
Refer to the Oracle Database 11gdocumentation for detailed information about hardware requirements.
2 - Download and Install an Oracle Database 11g
Perform an Enterprise or Client database download depending on your requirements. You only need Oracle SQL Developer or an Oracle client installation for those machines that only need to access the Oracle Database 11g server instance. Download the Database software from here.
3 - Download and Install Oracle SQL Developer
Oracle SQL Developer Migrations UseOracle SQL Developer Migrations to migrate your non-Oracle database schema, including data, triggers, views, stored procedures, and other database objects to an Oracle database. The specifics of what is migrated depends on the database being migrated.
4 - Download Presentations and Documentation
Download the following presentations and documents to help you understand Oracle architecture, technical issues, the scope of the migration, and the recommended migration methodology:
Oracle Database 11g Product Family - Outlines the choices of Oracle Database editions available. Each edition of Oracle Database 11g has features and functionality to meet the varying requirements of today’s business applications.
High-Level Migration Presentation - Explains why to use Oracle and introduces the migration methodology, migration tools, typical migration timeframes, etc. (to be updated)
Technical Migration Presentation - Compares Oracle to other RDBMS products, highlights things to watch out for, and includes a Tips and Tricks presentation. (to be updated)
Send the completed Service Request Form and the Technical Migration Questionnaire to the appropriate address (names on Migration Services Request Questionnaire document).
9 - Review Assessment, Scope, and Estimating Examples and Templates
Using the information you provided in the questionnaires, a PMG representative will create and send you an estimation document that includes an estimated timeframe for the migration project as well as the main steps required to complete the migration. In the meantime, you may find it useful to review the following documents:
