RAC Technologies Matrix for Linux Platforms 

  • Oracle will support the Oracle software on clusters comprised of RAC compatible technologies and supported software combinations
  • Please consult your hardware and software vendors as not all vendors may choose to support their hardware or software in every possible cluster combination
  • For RAC database and server virtualization (Oracle VM, LPAR, vPAR, LDOM, etc.) support see here.
  • For RAC database and SAP certification information see SAP support note 527843.
  • To use Oracle Clusterware, even in a non-RAC environment, the RAC hardware and software requirements must be met (unless otherwise stated.)
  • Cisco Unified Computing System (UCS) is supported.   Unified fabric (shared storage, private, and public networks) is supported with Cisco switches.  See MetaLink Note 948372.1.
  • Hitachi Compute Blade logical partitioning feature (also known as BladeSymphony Virtage) are supported with the following configurations: Oracle RAC 10.2.0.5 and 11.2.0.2 or higher with OEL and RHEL 5.x (5.4 or higher); Oracle RAC 11.2.0.3 and 12.1.0.1 or higher with OEL and RHEL 6.x (6.1 or higher).

NOTE: The information in the following matrix applies to all Linux platforms unless otherwise stated in the platform specific section.

  • Open Fabrics Enterprise Distribution (OFED) 1.3.1 and higher (RDS v2 and higher) is supported with Oracle 11.1 and higher with Oracle/Sun, HP, QLogic and Voltaire switches
  • Oracle only supports InfiniBand HCA with Mellanox chip set
  • Storage Technologies
  • All storage products must be supported by the server (host) and storage vendors
  • Fibre Channel (FC)
  • Switch required for greater than two nodes (if the storage system does not have enough FC port for the cluster nodes)
  • Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE)
  • Cisco FCoE solution is supported 
  • HP FCoE solution is supportd.  See metalink note 1405274.1 for details.
  • SCSI
  • Support for two nodes only 
  • iSCSI
  • Support up to 30 nodes.  Private GigE storage network is required. 
  • The iSCSI accessed storage must be supported by the system and storage vendors.
  • NFS File Server
  • Following NFS storage vendors are supported: EMC, Fujitsu, HP, IBM, NetApp, Pillar Data, Sun, Hitachi.
  • NFS file servers do not require RAC certification. The NFS file server must be supported by the system and storage vendors.
  • Currently, only NFS protocol version 3 (NFSv3) is supported.
  • Cluster File System/Volume Manager
  • OCFS 2

  • OCFS2 is not certified with Standard Edition RAC
  • OCFS2 version 1.2 and 1.4 can be used for Oracle RAC 9i, 10gR1, 10gR2, and 11gR1 on the respective OS versions.
    • OCFS2 version 1.4.1 and higher can be used to store Oracle RAC 11.2.0.2 and higher database files, database software and Oracle Clusterware files.
  • OCFS2 version 1.4.1 and higher is supported for Oracle RAC 12c
