Requirements and Information for All Workshops

Please bring your own laptop with the following sizing, software, and downloaded and deployed workshop specific materials that include a pre-configured virtual machine. Arrive with your laptops fully charged as the conference organizers are unable to provide power strips to each seat.

Post any issues, questions or comments on the workshop instructions to the Spatial Summit discussion thread in the Spatial And Graph discussion forum on OTN.

Hardware and Software requirements for all virtual machines used in these workshops

  • Laptop (quad-core preferred)
  • Virtual Box 4.3 or later
  • Minimum 8Gb RAM (16Gb preferred): The VM requires 6GB and two processors to run.
  • Minimum 100Gb free disk space (The image is approximately a 17Gb download that requires an additional 60 Gb of disk during import.)

Workshop 3: Create Custom, Interactive Map Visualizations Using Oracle Business Intelligence Integration Frameworks

The MVWorkshop.zip archive contains the following materials for this workshop.

  • MVWorkshop.catalog is the OBIEE catalog file which will be used to pre-seed the BI dashboards and analyses used in this workshop.
  • OBIEE-MV-HTML5API-ExercisesV6.docx contains the step-by-step instructions for the hands-on exercises.
  • Custom Interactive Maps in OBIEEv5.pdf is an overview presentation on OBIEE, MapViewer, Spatial, and intro to workshop content.
  • AirportLocationsStaticText.txt, DynamicHeatmapStaticText.txt and LassoSelectionText.txt are text files containing the javascript code snippets for the hands-on exercises.

Attendee Prerequisites

Attendees should have some knowledge of HTML and Javascript, and familiarity with OBIEE. The workshop will use the OBIEE SampleApp Virtual Box image (preconfigured with all the required software and sample content). It uses Oracle Enterprise Linux so some experience with invoking scripts and using text editors on Linux will be beneficial.

The virtual machine used in this workshop is available from the OBIEE Sample App page. Workshop attendees should download and deploy OBIEE 11.1.1.7.1 - Sample Application (V309 R2) from the OBIEE Sample App page prior to the workshop.

Workshop 4: Learn To Build An Analytics Solution With Oracle's Spatial Tools and Platform

Instructions

Please download, install, and start up the VM at least once before the workshop. The whole process (download, install, startup) will take at least one hour. Start the VM and log in as oracledemo/oracledemo. Once you have started up the VM close it using the Save machine state option rather than the Shutdown option.

The workshop has some examples that demonstrate use of parallel processes so you may want to modify the number of processors allocated to the Spatial Tutorial VM.

Before the VM is started, you can adjust the number of processors to match your host machine. From the Oracle VM VirtualBox Manager:

  • Click on Settings
  • Click on System
  • Click on the Processor tab
  • Adjust the number of processors to match your host machine, and click OK

Attendee Prerequisites

Attendees should have some knowledge of Java, SQL and PL/SQL. The workshop will use an Oracle Virtual Box Linux based image pre-configured with the required Oracle software and HERE sample data for San Francisco. The image will be available for download by attendees prior to the workshop. It uses Oracle Enterprise Linux so some experience with invoking scripts and using text editors on Linux (vi or gedit) will be beneficial.
