Oracle Application Express

Known Issues with Release 4.0.1

Application Express 4.0.2 was released on November 19, 2010.  It addressed most of the known issues with 4.0.1.  4.0.2 is a cumulative patch - meaning it includes all the fixed from 4.0.1 as well as 4.0.2.  If you followed any workarounds in your code, those can be removed after applying the 4.0.2 patchset.

Below is a list of existing known issues with 4.0.1.

Bugs related to upgrading from a previous release

  • 9906063 - ERROR IF JQUERY OR JQUERYUI LIBRARIES ARE LOADED BEFORE STANDARD APEX LIBRARIES
If the jQuery or jQueryUI JavaScript libraries or any other JavaScript library using $ as global namespace are loaded before the standard APEX JavaScript libraries then they will be overwritten by the jQuery version provided with APEX 4.0 and will not work anymore.
Workaround: Move loading of these additional JavaScript libraries after the #HEAD# placeholder in the page templates.

Other 4.0-related bugs

  • 9907690 - NEW TRANSLATABLE MESSAGES ADDED IN INTERACTIVE REPORT 4.0 NOT DOCUMENTED
For APEX 4.0, new IR messages were added but were not documented.
Solution: Applications developed to run in different languages should include the new translatable messages.
  • 9811411 - DYNAMIC ACTION SHOW / HIDE SHOULD ALSO SHOW / HIDE OTHER ITEM ATTRIBUTES
The show/hide only controls the element, an element's label and any other elements that are rendered as part of the actual widget (datepicker icon, shuttle icons, color picker icons, all list manager compound controls, etc.). Other item attributes (quick picks, resizeable controls, pre/post element text) are not shown/hidden by the dynamic action.
Workaround: When possible, use 'Show all page items on the same line' or 'Hide all page items on the same line'. This will only work if there are no other items within that line that you do not want affected by the dynamic action.
  • 9930553 - FAILED INSTALLATION ON 10.2.0.3
Application Express 4.0 cannot be installed on Database version 10.2.0.3 on Linux and potentially other platforms as well. The installation will end with "ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: associative array shape is not consistent with session parameters".
Solution: Apply the patch for bug 5890966 (related bug) or apply the 10.2.0.3 Patch 6 on Windows Platforms (if on Windows Platforms) or apply the 10.2.0.4 database patch set or upgrade to 11gR1 or later.
  • 10119451 - APP EXPORT WITH AUTH SCHEME USING 'NOT', 'NOT' IS LOST ON IMPORT
Exporting application that uses 'not' authorization, 'not' is lost on import requiring manual update.  This only affect components of type Page and Dynamic Action.
Solution: A patchset exception can be downloaded for this bug via Metalink.
  • 10254660 - AUTOMATIC TIME ZONE APPLICATION WITH TIME ZONE AT 0:00 LOOPS FOREVER
When Automatic Time Zone support is used in an application and the client time zone is UTC (0:00), as it recently changed for customers in London, if the APEX application requires authentication, a redirect will be continually issued to the application always appending &tz=0:00 to the URL until the URL gets too large
Solution: A patchset exception can be downloaded for this bug via Metalink.
