Application templates provide you with a quick way to create the project structure for standard applications with the appropriate combination of technologies already specified. The new application created from the template appears in the Application Navigator already partitioned into tiered projects, with the associated technology scopes set in each project.

There are several templates to choose from when you are creating a new application:

Create Generic Application dialog

The application template you select determines the initial project structure (the named project folders within the application) and the application libraries that will be added. The project or projects in the application define the associated technologies. The application template also filters the work you do in JDeveloper such that the choices available are focused only on the technologies you are working with.

Each application template can be customized to add (or delete) technologies of your choice. To make changes to a template or create a new template, choose Application then choose Manage Templates from the main menu.

Manage Templates dialog

Once you have created an application using a suitable template, you can still adjust the technologies available for the application:

  • You can add new projects to the application, and specify what technologies are to be included. To do this, in the Application Navigator, right-click the application name and choose New Project to use the New Gallery to create a project. In the New Gallery, select the All Technologies tab to display every item that can be created from the Gallery, regardless of the current project's technology scope or of the technologies that the item applies to.
  • You can add technologies to an existing project. To do this, in the Application Navigator, right-click the project and choose Proj ect Properties . In the Project Properties dialog, select Technology Scope. You can then add any of the Available Technologies to your project.
