Oracle Launches Oracle Service Delivery Platform Partner Initiative

The communications industry is in the midst of unprecedented change, driven by ubiquitous IP networks, standardized service interfaces, and adoption of Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) as the de facto standard signaling protocol. To support this change, Oracle has created the Oracle Service Delivery Platform Partner Initiative, with the aim of accelerating the development and deployment of communications services on existing and next-generation networks. Oracle's Service Delivery Platform combines Oracle Fusion Middleware, Oracle Database, and telecommunication functionality to enable creation and deployment of data, voice, and multimedia services.

The solutions being developed using the Oracle Service Delivery Platform are targeted at communications service providers that want to build and deploy revenue-generating services such as IP multimedia subsystems and voice over IP. These communications service providers require programming environments that support open standards, enable service portability, and facilitate innovation and differentiation. The Oracle Service Delivery Platform uses service-oriented architecture and software component reusability to meet these needs with carrier-grade performance and reliability. Oracle Service Delivery Platform provides a scalable, fault-tolerant SIP application and presence server, enabling communications service providers to build and deploy services such as voice-enabled gaming, messaging, Internet Protocol Television, audio conferencing, location- and presence-based services, Parlay gateways, softphone clients, media servers, operational support systems (OSS) and business support systems, and custom applications.

Oracle partners supporting the Oracle Service Delivery Platform Partner Initiative include Aepona, Atos Origin, Atreus, auSystems, Axiom, Bridgewater, Cantata, CounterPath, Deimos Space, Enea, Espial, Everis, EzTogether, FeedHenry, GIP Exyr GmbH, Global IP Solutions, HP, IONA, IP Unity Glenayre, mFormation, Nominum, Radisys, Sun Microsystems, Telenity, TietoEnator, Unipier, VeriSign, and VoiceObjects.

"Partnerships will play a critical role in the [service delivery platform] market over the next several years," says Shira Levine, senior analyst in IDC's Next-Generation OSS and Billing practice. "A standards-based service delivery platform solution that includes a vibrant partner ecosystem will enable both rapid service deployments and a broad range of new services for operators and consumers alike."

The Oracle Secure Search Initiative, a new Oracle PartnerNetwork program, aims to expand the development of secure connectors to enterprise datasources and applications by offering partners a comprehensive framework for extending Oracle Secure Enterprise Search 10g. Secure connectors from partners will allow users to find information that resides in disparate datasources and applications through a single query from a single interface.

"With Oracle Secure Enterprise Search 10g, large companies can help ensure effective knowledge dissemination to employees and partners in a controlled manner," says Jeroen Tas, vice chairman of MphasiS, an EDS company and a participant in the initiative. "We believe this is imperative for knowledge-intensive industries like finance and healthcare, as well as innovation-intensive product companies."

Oracle Secure Enterprise Search Connectors are available to enable secure crawling of BusinessObjects Universes, EMC Documentum Content Server DocBases, FileNet Content Engine object stores, IBM Lotus Notes databases, Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft SharePoint, and Open Text's Livelink Enterprise Content Management. Oracle partners supporting the initiative include Business Objects, Clarabridge, HCL Technologies, Inxight Software, Kazeon, MphasiS, Open Text, and Siderean.

Advanced Modernization Offerings Expand Unisys OASIS Open Source Suite

Unisys has announced the Unisys OASIS Oracle Grid Accelerator, one of four major enhancements to its Open and Secure Integrated Solutions (OASIS) portfolio of integrated, certified open source software suites. OASIS also includes a comprehensive set of open source tools from Unisys that help clients build real-time infrastructure.

A joint development effort between Unisys and Oracle, the OASIS Oracle Grid Accelerator can enable even the largest Oracle databases to migrate from prior Oracle releases (including 7, 8i, and 9i) on UNIX platforms to Oracle 10g Real Application Clusters on Unisys ES7000/one Enterprise Servers running Linux in a matter of weeks.

The Unisys OASIS Oracle Grid Accelerator includes hardware, software, migration services, and support. The global staff of services experts at Unisys can also help clients with an end-to-end portfolio of Linux-related IT services.

Mythics Builds Content Management Engine on Oracle Application Express

Mythics has extended Oracle Application Express, Oracle's hosted declarative development environment, using the Mythics 1Enterprise Indigo Framework technology. This baseline content management engine can be used to construct production-ready applications in Oracle Application Express. Mythics also offers the 1Enterprise Innovation Suite, which allows use of prebuilt applications using the same foundation architecture.

Used with Oracle Application Express, the Mythics 1Enterprise Indigo Framework lets Oracle Database customers both rapidly build asset tracking, reporting, mapping, and auditing applications and take full advantage of built-in features of Oracle Application Express such as user interface themes, navigational controls, form handlers, and flexible reports. The combination of the two products is intended to fill a niche between costly customization projects and unyielding packaged software solutions.
