Java 3D 1.2.1_03 Requirements

  • For Solaris:
  • For Windows (OpenGL version):
    • Windows NT 4.0 (Service Pack 3), Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows 2000
    • Java2 SDK 1.3 or later from Sun Microsystems. This includes the Java Plug-In (JPI) to update Java in your browser.
    • OpenGL 1.1 from Microsoft or an accelerator which supports OpenGL 1.1. For more information about OpenGL, visit the OpenGL.org web site.
  • For Windows (DirectX version):
    • Windows 98, Windows ME, or Windows 2000
    • Java2 SDK 1.3 or later from Sun Microsystems. This includes the Java Plug-In (JPI) to update Java in your browser.
    • Microsoft DirectX 7.0 or later, available from Microsoft.

Java 3D 1.2.1_03 Install instructions:

  1. Download the appropriate Java 3D runtime executable from the download page on the developer.java.sun.com web site:
    • Solaris:
      • Runtime only : java3d-1_2_1_03-solsparc-rt.bin
      • Runtime and SDK: java3d-1_2_1_03-solsparc-sdk.bin
    • Windows OpenGL:
      • Runtime only : java3d-1_2_1_03-win32-opengl-rt.exe
      • Runtime and SDK: java3d-1_2_1_03-win32-opengl-sdk.exe
    • Windows DirectX:
      • Runtime only : java3d-1_2_1_03-win32-directx-rt.exe
      • runtime and SDK: java3d-1_2_1_03-win32-directx-sdk.exe

    The downloaded objects are InstallAnywhere executables.

    You must have permission to write files in your Java Runtime Environment and/or SDK directories. If you do not have this permission, the installer will run to completion but Java 3D will not be installed. Make sure you are running Java from your local machine and that you are the same user who installed Java.

  2. Run the executable:
  3. After accepting the license agreement you will be asked to select which Java VM to upgrade with Java 3D. JVM's from your PATH will be listed, or you may choose a different one by selecting its 'java' executable. After installation, you may remove the executable GUI installer.

  4. After Java 3D is installed:
  5. Once the release has been extracted, the documentation for Java 3D may be downloaded andextracted.

  6. Setting CLASSPATH
  7. If Java 3D is installed into the JDK or JRE, you do not need to include the Java 3D jar files in your CLASSPATH, nor do you need to include the Java 3D shared libraries in your PATH or LD_LIBRARY_PATH. You should include "." in your CLASSPATH or ensure that CLASSPATH is not set.
