Introduction
The Wireless Messaging API (WMA) is an optional package for the Java 2 Platform, Mobile Edition (J2ME) that provides platform-independent access to wireless communication resources like Short Message Service (SMS). Currently WMA can be used on top of CLDC and MIDP, but could also be implemented on CDC-based devices.

Reference Implementations

The WMA reference implementations (RIs) are provided for device manufacturers who want to port the Java wireless messaging APIs to another platform. They are available through the Sun Community Source License (SCSL) program.

Technology Compatibility Kit
The WMA technology compatibility kit (TCK) can be licensed from Sun to certify a WMA implementation on a specific platform. For more information about licensing terms, please contact Sun's Java Partner Engineering group.

Development Tool
The Sun Java Wireless Toolkit supports WMA 1.1, and makes it easy for application developers to emulate sending and receiving SMS and CBS messages between multiple device emulators that are based on MIDP 2.0.

Recommended Practices
The WMA recommended practices document, created by the JSR 120 expert group, provides implementation notes for platform developers deploying WMA 1.0 on a MIDP 2.0 implementation. Please note that version 1.1 of the WMA specification supersedes these recommended practices.
