This tutorial covers how to create a classic sample application in Planning and how to load sample data for reference.
The sample application is a Planning application that is included with installation. It provides the following sample application designs and objects: dimensions, composite data forms, business rules, menus, task lists, user variables, substitution variables, and data. It demonstrates components that you can build to suit your environment, and is not intended to be a fully functional model that you apply, as is, to your enterprise.
The sample application models a company specializing in producing, selling, and installing audio systems, digital video, televisions, and VCRs.
Before starting this tutorial, you should:
| 1. | Have dbowner access to a blank database. |
| 2. | Have Administrator access to Planning. |
| 3. | Have Administrator access to Enterprise Performance Management Architect. |
| 4. | Have access to the Configuration Utility. |
| 5. | Have an existing Planning instance. |
Data sources link the relational database and the Essbase server. You must create a data source when you create an application. Each data source must be associated with an instance. When you create or update applications using the classic application wizard, you select a data source for the application.
In this topic, you configure a data source for your sample application.
1. | Launch the Configuration Utility and click Next.

2. | In the product selection panel, under Planning, select Data Source Configuration.
| ||||||||||
| 3. | Select Create Datasource and click Next.

| ||||||||||
| 9. | Review the task summary and click Next.
| ||||||||||
| 10. | When prompted that the configuration task was completed, click Next.
| ||||||||||
| 11. | Select No, and click Next.
| ||||||||||
| 12. | Click Finish.
