1. Introduction

This document provides information on installing and upgrading Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Grid Control and Oracle Management Agent 10g for the following cases:

1.1 Download Enterprise Manager 11g Grid Control Release 1 (11.1.0.1.0)

Download the GridControl_11.1.0.1.0_<platform>.zip installation archive from the following location:

Note: If the software is available in multiple ZIP files, the format is GridControl_11.1.0.0_<platform>_<n>of<n>.zip, where the first occurrence of <n> indicates the ZIP file number and the second occurrence of <n> indicates the total number of ZIP files available for download

Refer to the section"Procuring Enterprise Manager Grid Control Software" of Enterprise Manager Grid Control Advanced Installation and Configuration Guide to know more about how to get the software, verify file size, verify platform etc from the following link:

$ unzip GridControl_11.1.0.1.0_<platform>.zip

NOTE: <platform name> will be "LINUX" or "Win32" depending on the platform for which you are installing.

This zip can be used for:
- Upgrading Oracle Management Service Release 2 (10.2.0.4) or higher to Oracle Management Service 11g Release 1 (11.1.0.1.0)
- Upgrading Oracle Management Repository (sysman schema)
- Upgrading default Oracle Management Agent on the host where OMS is running.

NOTE: This will not upgrade the database in which the Management Repository (sysman schema) resides.

2. Installing Oracle Enterprise Manager 11g Grid Control Release 1
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Enterprise Manager 11g Grid Control Release 1 (11.1.0.1.0) is a full release it allows you to install fresh 11.1.0.1.0 Grid Control in your
existing environment without having any previous release of Grid Control installed in your environment.

3. Required Post-Installation Steps
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Enterprise Manager 11g Grid Control Release 1 runs a metric query against the v$rman_backup_job_details view on target database instances for Oracle Database 10g Release 2 (10.2.0.1) or higher. In some situations, this query might expose RDBMS bug 8434467, in which the query can run for an extended period of time, resulting in high CPU utilization.

If you notice this problem, it is recommended that you apply the patches listed below, which will reduce the the frequency of the query. You should also update the Management Agent software that is installed in the Oracle Management Server Home to the latest version, which can be downloaded from My Oracle Support (formerly Oracle MetaLink).

Note that the process to follow varies slightly depending on when you downloaded Enterprise Manager 11g Grid Control Release 1.

3.1 Process To Follow If You Downloaded The Release Before May 10, 2010

If you downloaded Enterprise Manager 11g Grid Control Release 1 before May 10, 2010, you must install the following patches:

• Oracle Management Server (OMS) patch: 9659466
  This patch must be installed on all Enterprise Manager 11g Grid Control Release 1 Oracle Management Server instances.

• Management Agent patch: 9676134
  This patch must be installed on all the Enterprise Manager 11g Grid Control Release 1 Management Agents, including the Agent that was installed with each Oracle Management Server instance.

The patches can be downloaded from My Oracle Support (formerly Oracle MetaLink), accessible at the following URL:

Next, update the Management Agent software installed in the OMS_Home:

1. Click the Deployments tab on the Enterprise Manager Grid Control home page.

2. Click the Download Agent Software link under "Agent Installation".

3. Select the radio button for the Platform and Version to deploy:

4. • Platform: Linux x86-64

   • Version: 11.1.0.1.0

5. Click the Download button to download the Management Agent software to the Oracle Management Server home.

3.2 Process To Follow If You Downloaded The Release After May 10, 2010

If you downloaded Enterprise Manager 11g Grid Control Release 1 after May 10, 2010, you must install the following patches:

• Oracle Management Server (OMS) patch: 9659466
  This patch must be installed on all Enterprise Manager 11g Grid Control Release 1 Oracle Management Server instances.

• Management Agent patch: 9676134
  This patch must be installed on the Enterprise Manager 11g Grid Control Release 1 Management Agent that was installed with Oracle Management Server.

Next, update the Management Agent software installed in the OMS_Home:

1. Click the Deployments tab on the Enterprise Manager Grid Control home page.

2. Click the Download Agent Software link under "Agent Installation".

3. Select the radio button for the Platform and Version to deploy:

   • Version: 11.1.0.1.0

5. Click the Download button to download the Management Agent software to your OMS_Home.

4.1 Upgrading Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Grid Control Release (10.1.0.x) to 11g Grid Control Release 1 (11.1.0.1.0)

If you are on Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Grid Control Release (10.1.0.x) then its a 3 steps process to get to the latest version of Grid Control Release 11.1.0.1.0

Step 1: Upgrade your existing Grid Control Release 10.1.0.x. to base release version 10.2.0.x. ( For Example 10.2.0.1.0 is base release for for Linux and 10.2.0.2.0 is base release for Windows) Follow the instructions from Chapter "Upgrading Enterprise Manager Grid Control" of the Enterprise Manager Grid Control 10g
release 2 Installation and Basic Configuration Guide available at-

Step 2: Enterprise Manager 11.1.0.1.0 supports direct upgrade of your existing installations of versions 10.2.0.4 or 10.2.0.5. Now apply 10.2.0.4 or 10.2.0.5 patch set to the upgraded 10.2.0.x version of the Grid Control. Follow the patchset application
instructions from the respective Release Notes available here:

For example, if you are on Grid Control release 1 (10.1.0.4) on Linux x64 then first you have to upgrade to Grid Control release 2 (10.2.1.0) and then apply the 10.2.0.4 /10.2.0.5 patchset.

Step 3: Upgrade your Grid Control 10.2.0.4 or higher release to 11.1.0.1.0 version. Follow the steps from the Chapter "Upgrading to Enterprise Manager 11g" of Enterprise Manager Grid Control Basic Installation Guide available at:

4.2 Upgrading Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Grid Control Release (10.2.0.x) to 11g Grid Control Release 1 (11.1.0.1.0)

If you are on Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Grid Control Release (10.2.0.x) then its a 2 steps process to get to the latest version of
Grid Control Release 11.1.0.1.0

Enterprise Manager 11.1 supports direct upgrade of your existing installations of versions 10.2.0.4 or 10.2.0.5. If you are any other 10.2.0.X release then you will have to first upgrade to 10.2.0.4 or 10.2.0.5.

Step 1: Note that this step is optional and only required if your Enterprise Manager installation has a version lower than 10.2.0.4. Apply 10.2.0.4 or 10.2.0.5 patch set to your existing Grid Control Release 10.2.0.x. Follow the patchset application instructions
from the respective Release Notes available here:

Step 2: Once you are on 10.2.0.4 or 10.2.0.5 version then you can directly upgrade to 11.1.0.1.0 version. Follow the steps in the
Chapter "Upgrading to Enterprise Manager 11g" of Enterprise Manager Grid Control Basic Installation Guide available at:

For example, if you are on Grid Control release 2 (10.2.0.1) on Linux x64, you must first apply 10.2.0.4 or 10.2.0.5 patchset to this Grid Control release and then upgrade to 11.1.0.1.0 release.

If you are on Grid Control release 3 (10.2.0.3) on HP-UX Itanium, then first apply 10.2.0.4 or 10.2.0.5 patchset to this Grid Control release and then upgrade to 11.1.0.1.0 release.

5. Installing a fresh Oracle Management Agent 11g Release 1 (11.1.0.1.0)

6. Upgrading any existing Oracle Management Agent Release 1 (10.1.0.x) or Release 2 (10.2.0.x) or higher to Oracle Management Agent 11g Release 1 (11.1.0.1.0)

6.1 Upgrading Oracle Management Agent Release 1 (10.1.0.x) to Oracle Management Agent 11g Release 1 (11.1.0.1.0)

If your Additional Management Agent version is 10.1.0.x and you want to upgrade it to 11.1.0.1.0 version then:

Step 1: You have to first upgrade your Management Agent to version 10.2.0.4/10.2.0.5.

Step 2: Then upgrade it to version 11.1.0.1.0

6.2 Upgrading Oracle Management Agent Release 2 (10.2.0.x) to Oracle Management Agent 11g Release 1 (11.1.0.1.0)

If you have Additional Management Agent version 10.2.0.3 or lower and want to upgrade it to 11.1.0.1.0 version then:

Step 1: Apply 10.2.0.4 /10.2.0.5 patchset to the Management Agent. Follow the steps from the section "Upgrading Management Agent" of the respective version of Release note.

Step 2: Upgrade 10.2.0.4/10.2.0.5 version of Management Agent to 11.1.0.1.0. Follow the steps from the Chapter “Upgrading Oracle Management Agent Using Agent Upgrade Wizard" of Enterprise Manager Grid Control Advanced Installation and Configuration Guide available here:
