Oracle Clusterware is portable cluster software that allows clustering of independent servers so that they cooperate as a single system. Oracle Clusterware was first released with Oracle Database 10g Release 1 as the required cluster technology for Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC). Oracle Clusterware is an independent server pool infrastructure, which is fully integrated with Oracle RAC, capable of protecting any kind of application in a failover cluster.
Oracle Clusterware 11g Release 2 sets a milestone in the development of Oracle’s server pool solution. Oracle Clusterware, combined with Oracle Automatic Storage Management (ASM), is Oracle’s private cloud infrastructure software (Oracle Grid Infrastructure). The integration of these two technologies sets a new level in the management of private cloud based applications.
Oracle Clusterware Special-Use Licensing:
Oracle Clusterware can be used to protect any application (restarting or failing over the application in the event of a failure), free of charge, if one or more of the following conditions are met:
- The server OS is supported by a valid Oracle Unbreakable Linux support contract.
- The product to be protected is either:
- Any Oracle product
- Any third-party product that directly or indirectly stores data in an Oracle database
- At least one of the servers in the cluster is licensed for Oracle Database

The Oracle Grid Infrastructure provides the necessary components to manage high availability (HA) for any business critical application. Oracle Grid Infrastructure Bundled Agents are Oracle Grid Infrastructure components that support a complete HA framework for applications. This framework is an intuitive, ready to use HA solution that offers pre-defined Oracle Grid Infrastructure resource configurations and agents to integrate applications, infrastructure resources and the Oracle RDBMS for complete HA. The Oracle Grid Infrastructure Bundled Agents adhere to the Oracle Clusterware Special-Use Licensing noted above. The 'skinny' Cluster for Exalogic!
Siebel CRM 8.1.1 deploys on Exalogic v.2 using a 'skinny' Oracle Clusterware for Exalogic to protect Siebel components. Oracle Clusterware 22.214.171.124 on Exalogic is tailored for applications on Exalogic that do not require the same cache coherency data model as the Oracle RAC database. Oracle Clusterware 126.96.36.199 on Exalogic is a loosely coupled clusterware with a lighter foot print and a more relaxed node synchronization requirement suitable for non-database, business critical applications on Exalogic.
