Oracle Multimedia (formerly Oracle interMedia) is a feature of Oracle Database Standard Edition and Enterprise Edition. It provides a platform for a wide range of multimedia applications—patient medical image management for hospitals and research organizations; clinical trial image management for pharmaceutical companies; multimedia asset management for museums, corporations, and the public sector; check image management at financial institutions; asset management for web publishing, video security and many other multimedia intensive applications.

Oracle Multimedia enables the efficient management and retrieval of multimedia (image, audio, and video) data in Oracle Database with:

  • High-performance storage and retrieval using Oracle SecureFiles.
  • Secure, scalable information management.
  • Support for the most popular multimedia formats with built-in metadata extraction and basic image processing.

Oracle Multimedia's comprehensive support for DICOM content, the widely adopted standard for medical images, videos and structured reports:

  • Facilitates the development of large repositories of DICOM content (CTs, MRIs, X-Rays, Ultrasounds, Pathology images, etc.) that are managed and secured using powerful Oracle Database tools.
  • Enables the development of image-enabled EMRs (Electronic Medical Records).
  • Includes a rich set of security, privacy, conformance and validation features to enable open, scalable, archives and applications in healthcare and life sciences.
