Overview of Firmware Releases for SPARC Systems | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Notes: Sun System Firmware uses the first (MAJOR) version number to denote architectural evolution, vs. tracking features. Sun System Firmware 6.x supports only the original SPARC T1 series of products and uses the Advanced Lights Out Manager (ALOM) as a service processor environment. Sun System Firmware 7.x supports only the SPARC T2/T2+ series of products and introduced the Integrated Lights Out Manager (ILOM) as a service processor environment. Sun System Firmware 8.x is the latest major version of SPARC T-Series firmware, and it supports only the T3/T4 generation of SPARC servers. It shares four sub-component versions (OpenBoot, POST, Hypervisor, and ILOM) with the existing Sun System Firmware 7.x and differs primarily in the introduction of the Guest Manager feature and a restructured Reset phase introduced in a new component called Nyx 1.0, which replaces the previous vBSC 1.x reset functionality. There are no new Sun System Firmware 6.x or 7.x feature releases planned.
