HP is the world's leading technology provider, and one of Oracle's largest partners. Through the Application Modernization Initiative (
www.hp.com/go/ami) , HP, as a partner with Oracle, provides the following industry-leading technology and services to pair with Oracle Database 10g and Oracle Fusion Middleware working within the Virtual Server Environment (VSE) Reference Architecture.
HP Services offers a range of Application Modernization Services, the core elements are: Application portfolio, Rationalisation Application Assessment, Application Analysis Transition - design, build & test, and Application Management. These services are designed to deploy a solution that addresses the specific requirements, and center around the following modernization strategies: Reengineerment of an existing application; Rehosting a legacy application from a mainframe (or other legacy platform) to a highly reliable and manageable standards-based platform; Replacement of custom-designed code with a packaged application; Retainment of components of your current environment through integration with newly deployed applications; Retirement of an application that no longer supports the business.
HP Services takes an end-to-end lifecycle approach to defining and implementing SOA solutions that meet your precise needs – and evolve as those needs change. Rather than take a proprietary approach, we work to clearly understand clients needs and then determine the best possible approach and standards-based solution to integrate into the existing heterogeneous environment. Regardless of the existing application and infrastructure environment, we can help architect, consolidate, integrate, and improve it based on SOA. In addition HP has deployed SOA competency centres, located in the U.S., France, India, and Japan, to help plan, design, implement, and manage SOA environments – with HP and third-party experts on staff at each centre providing easy access to consulting services, software and hardware demonstrations, seminars, and hands-on workshops.

WGV chooses Oracle and HP to propel them to the lowest-cost operating model in the insurance industry
Wurttembergische Gemeinde Versicherung A.G. (WGV) ranks among the top insurance providers in germany, and as part of the WGV Swabian Life Insurance Group, develops software and provides insurance technology solutions to other insurers.
Facing the impact from deregulation of the insurance market, WGV needed to update it's outsourced mainframe-based environment. WGV recognized the importance of bringing IT in-house to control its future while reducing its cost basis and providing a platform for continued innovation and optimization of its core process.
To reach these goals, WGV selected Oracle for its web-based applications, thus reducing their integration challenges while providing a flexible environment for growth. They then turned to HP for its flexible, adaptive architecture, low-cost operating model and ability to provide scalable solutions for mission-critical applications.
By partnering with Oracle and HP, WGV has developed a single end-to-end insurance solution from the ground up. WGV made the transformation from a costly, outsourced mainframe solution to a more flexible, scalable client/server platform that allows it to continually automate and innovate. By building its platform based on industry standards, WGV has achieved the lowest IT cost basis in the German insurance industry - realizing a 446% ROI with a payback in 33 months.

Swedish Tax Agency commits to modernization program
When the Swedish Tax Agency wanted to modernize its application and infrastructure environment to make operational activities more effective, it worked with HP Services and our Mainframe Modernization Centre of Excellence to design and implement an application modernization solution. The Swedish Tax Agency’s objective was to simplify procedures when interacting with both the public and business community.
“We have selected HP to perform key migration of our Unisys mainframe applications. This migration will make it possible for the Swedish Tax Agency to provide better opportunities for all kinds of taxpayers to file their tax returns electronically, and save time and money,” says Anne Grön, CIO, Swedish Tax Agency. “This is a critical modernization program for the Swedish Tax Agency. Under the contract, HP will migrate the existing legacy environment, consisting of Cobol and Assembler applications, to a new open systems based environment including HP Integrity Servers and Oracle 10g Database.”
Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART)
When San Francisco’s famous Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) system decided to move away from mainframe computing, its decision reflected a growing trend. BART’s objectives: new applications, automated processes, and a more flexible infrastructure with integrated, accessible applications and information, enhanced disaster recovery, better business continuity, and easier future upgrades.
