| Solution |
LegaSuite
LegaSuite® transforms legacy applications into SOA assets. With LegaSuite you can:
- Expose mainframe and midrange legacy applications as reusable Web services, Java beans and .NET assemblies – all easily “consumed” by Oracle middleware and applications via industry-standard interfaces.
- Replace green screens with a new Windows or Web GUI
Powerful development tools that require no coding make implementation fast and easy, accelerating project completion and eliminating maintenance. The tooling is designed to be easily learned by existing development teams.
LegaSuite eliminates the need to hand-code legacy adapters, speeding and simplifying the transformation of legacy applications into reusable business services for SOA. The tools are designed for use by existing development teams, solving the “SOA knowledge gap” problem. Typical projects include contact center modernization, customer online self-service, business process optimization, 360-degree view of customer, “shock-absorber” during migration off of legacy platforms to new generations of SOA applications, and many others.
Legacy applications “liberated” by LegaSuite include those running on IBM mainframe, ICL mainframe, System i (aka AS/400), character-based UNIX and even Windows client/server platforms. For example, Oracle’s World Software (formerly J. D. Edwards World Software) uses LegaSuite to expose integration interfaces and to provide the GUI for thousands of accounts around the world. LegaSuite supports the industry’s broadest range of legacy platforms.
Targets include ANY standards-based “consumer” of Web services, Java beans or .NET assemblies including Oracle middleware and applications such as 10g, PeopleSoft CRM, etc.

| Case Studies |
Scholastic, Inc.
Scholastic, the world’s largest publisher of children’s books, conducts 115,000 book fairs across the U.S. every year, giving children and parents the opportunity to review and purchase books from Scholastic and other publishers.
In order to provide a 360-degree view of the customer, capitalize more effectively on up-selling opportunities and improve contact center call times related to the book fairs, Scholastic decided to implement PeopleSoft CRM.
Faced with the requirement to integrate CRM with their domain-rich customer information application on the mainframe, they selected LegaSuite to speed and simplify the integration, and to make the aggregate system easier to maintain.
They identified 64 services that the CRM system would require from the mainframe app. Seagull Software’s LegaSuite tools enabled the services to be encapsulated and published with no coding, and LegaSuite middleware handles the integration at runtime. The entire project—including the CRM implementation—was
completed in 6 months.
JD Edwards World Software Services Layer
Oracle (fka J.D. Edwards) implemented the World Service Enablement services layer to provide access to application functions in World Software via Web services. The service access methods are RPG-to-Java, Java-to RPG and SQL access to World Tables (DB2 database).
LegaSuite is used in the World Service Enablement architecture to expose RPG-to-Java APIs.
Examples of the items exposed via LegaSuite as Web services include:
- Address Book (including all children)
- Customer Master
- Supplier Master
- Sales Order (Inbound)
- Purchase Order (Inbound)
- G/L Account Master
- G/L Entry
- Fixed Asset Master
- Fixed Asset Cost Summary
- Item Availability
