City and County of San Francisco Business Tax System
The City and County of San Francisco were in the process of de-commissioning the mainframe. They wanted to protect their investment in the business logic and move to a more cost effective platform. Tiburon was engaged to migrate their existing applications to an Oracle/Unix platform using COBOL and Java. The application comprised about 2,500 programs and is currently supporting their property tax system.
Mercedes Benz - USA
Mercedes-Benz USA, Information Technology Department released an RFQ for conversion of two separate COBOL–based systems. The conversion was part of a low risk strategy to perform an automated migration to a relational database.. Thus establishing reliable and long-term support at reduced operation costs and reducing risk by moving to a widely accepted and supported platform. MBUSA was also very concerned about maintaining their existing performance.
The VISTA and IVIS systems support the vehicle sales and distribution processes at MBUSA. Included in the database is the vehicle master database. The proper functioning of the databases and the COBOL programs describe here is mission critical to the daily sales and inventory management of Mercedes Benz product.
The VISTA inventory consisted of COBOL LE and IDMS ADS/O programs. IVIS was a Micro Focus COBOL 2 system that runs on RS6000 and used indexed sequential files. The VISTA application interfaces with a number of other Mercedes Benz application system around the world on a real time basis and contains very complex processing.
At the end of the project all of the application functionality was preserved. Response time for the online CICS systems was cut approximately 50% and one hour was saved from the nightly batch window.
