I. DESCRIPTION

This vulnerability may impact the availability, confidentiality or integrity of WebLogic Server applications, which use the Apache, Sun or IIS web server configured with the WebLogic plug-in for Apache, Sun or IIS respectively.

CVSS Severity Score: 8.5
Attack Range (AV): Network
Attack Complexity (AC): Medium
Authentication Level (Au): Single
Impact Type: Complete confidentiality, integrity and availability violation
CVSS Base Score Vector: (AV:N/AC:M/Au:S/C:C/I:C/A:C)

8.5 is the CVSS base score if the Web Server is running as root because a complete machine takeover can occur. If the Web Server is not running as root, 6.0 is the CVSS base score as complete machine takeover cannot occur.

III. AFFECTED VERSIONS

The following versions of WebLogic Server and Weblogic Express are affected by this vulnerability

Apache, NSAPI and ISAPI Plug-ins dated prior to April 14, 2009 which implies:
  • Oracle WebLogic Server 10.3
  • Oracle WebLogic Server 10.0 released through MP1
  • Oracle WebLogic Server 9.2 released through MP3
  • Oracle WebLogic Server 9.1
  • Oracle WebLogic Server 9.0
  • Oracle WebLogic Server 8.1 released through SP6
  • Oracle WebLogic Server 7.0 released through SP7

IV. SUGGESTED ACTION

WebLogic Server plug-ins for Apache, Sun and IIS web servers:

Download and apply the latest web server plug-in patch # 8343141 from OracleMetaLink as per the instructions below:
• Select the Patches and Updates tab after logging in to OracleMetaLink.
• Click Simple Search.
• In the Search By field, select Patch Number from the list.
• Enter the patch number. Please note that the patch is uploaded against WLS 10.3 and the zip file contains patches for all platforms.
• Click Go.
• Click Download to download the patch and follow the instructions in the readme file inside the zip file to install the patch.

Note : The WebLogic plug-ins include all cumulative bug-fixes and thus include fixes for all previously released advisories and CVE-2009-1012. These plug-ins are compatible with all versions of WebLogic Server.
