It might be possible to use the incorrect password to guess the correct password.

A problem was identified that could potentially cause a security vulnerability in certain versions of WebLogic Portal. An upgrade is available to correct this problem (see Section II). Oracle treats potential security problems with a high degree of urgency and endeavors to take appropriate steps to help ensure the security of our customers' systems. As a result, Oracle strongly suggests the following actions:

I. Advisory

Sites using the UserLogin control are vulnerable to this issue. A non-authorized individual must be able to view the standard output in order to exploit the vulnerability.

On a failed login attempt due to an incorrect password, the password that was input by the user is echoed to standard output. An individual not authorized to log in to the account to which the login is being attempted may be able to view the incorrect password of the failed login attempt and use that as a starting point to guess the correct password.

This upgrade resolves the issue by not echoing the password on a failed login.

The following versions of WebLogic Portal are affected by this vulnerability
  • WebLogic Portal 8.1 released through Service Pack 3, on all platforms

Oracle strongly recommends the following course of actions:

WebLogic Portal version 8.1
Upgrade to Service Pack 4
